For now.... the longer you go without real domestic success the more fans you will lose. Like I said before, anyone born in the last 20 years have no idea about Liverpool and when they have won. Nottingham Forest are one of the most succuessful clubs in british history and now look at them! Barely 30 years on and they are struggling to stay in the championship. Word of warning to Arsenal about what can happen when you eventually lose such an influential manager.
Now now A4l,We would'nt have won our 2005 CL under the old system and Utd would'nt have won their treble under it. A champions league should be for champions, obviously Arsenal,Chelsea,Blackburn and Utd would have had chances to win it and we wouldn't. But its much harder to actually have to win the league to enter it than to finish 2nd,3rd or 4th to enter it.
Liverpool always bang on about all the fans they have but thats all they are! How many of them actually turn up to support the team?? We get 52,000 week in week out and thats what really matters. Who cares if we dont have fan clubs in the far east and south america. Football is about real passion not just what kind of Jersey you want to buy and pretend to be a fan.
Your demented lad,we have won more in the last 20yrs than most clubs in the prem have in their entire history, and just because you say our 'global' support doesn't exist or will fade doesn't make it true or likely to happen.
Liverpool are not a bigger club than newcastle though, where are you getting this tripe from??? Listen... If you and I set up a club and I had more members coming to my 'club meetings' than you did my club would be bigger than yours. FACT - I have no doubt you would bang on about how big your club meetings used to be in the 80s lol but the facts still remain the same.
So now your claiming Sunderland is in Newcastle(or vice versa)because your point failed. Its much harder to exist in a two club(or in London many club)city when theres only so much support in your favour.
A club by definition is messured by how many members it has. The amount of people who wear the club shirt but are not in the club or the history or previous club victories are irrelevent.
So to review... whoever said earlier that you could build a stadium 'twice the size' and fill it is probably not correct??
Newcastle get bigger average attendances and thats were it ends,on every other count we trump you. Value Income Sponsorship Success Merchandise Sales. Etc etc etc.
but.. clubs of any kind are measure in size by the amount of members it has?? if my darts club had 50 members and your yachting club had 75 your club would be bigger right??
I always thought Newcastle's attendance figures were so high because there was nothing else to do 'doon the toon'
