http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11675/7688047/Redknapp-support-for-Blues What's this all about!? I can understand supporting the only remaining English team, but at the expense of our CL? Not a chance.
"Do I have a problem with it if Chelsea win the CL, and then fourth doesn't get a qualifying spot ? No, not really. They've got to win it first" Not the words of our Harry, but the words of Alan Pardew. I prefer to cut Harry a bit of slack on this one, in the same way people have seen it as 'ok' for Pardew to say pretty much the same thing. What are these guys supposed to say ?? No, I'd ****ing hate it if an English side got beat in the final ??
Upon reading it in further detail, I've come across another 'gem' "I wouldn't say we've got a stronger squad than Chelsea - no way - or a stronger squad than Liverpool come to that."
He should have enough sense to say pretty much anything other than what he said, SC. He just doesn't think. I'm ****ing sick of it, frankly.
Fair enough PNP. Whilst I didn't particuarly take umbrage at what Harry said today regarding Chavs in the CL, at the same time I accept it probably wasn't the wisest interview he's ever given. He's not really changed too much over the years though. It's not so long ago he was telling Pompey fans "we were going to places like Scunthorpe and Exeter every week before I got here". Which is why I don't fully understand why people get so wound up over his comments.
Just because somebody's said bloody stupid things in the past, it doesn't give them a license to continue to do so, SC. His comments have pissed me off virtually since he joined. I've posted about it repeatedly, even when we've been having a good run. He says the dumbest things, at times. His relationship with the press is more important to him than his relationship with the fans. I hope that he remembers that when they're killing his career.
It's not so much that he said it, it's more that I know that's his honest opinion. If he gave a **** about our next season he'd say that he doesn't want Chelsea to win as it makes it more difficult for us to get CL footbal or if for a change he wanted to be diplomatic he'd say that he just wants to concentrate on Spurs and finishing as high as we can, rather than talking about other teams. As I said, he's indicated that he doesn't really give a **** and whilst I've always backed him, I'll be pleased if he goes at the end of the season. It's inexcusable to be in charge of a club that you're not 100% hoping to bring the most success you can too.
All Harry keeps saying is the position he hopes we'll get, 4th, what he isn't saying is 'I really want US to give that CL a crack next season'...but he hasn't. This will not motivate Modric or Ade to get CL football with us, because they'll just leave and get it elsewhere, Modric could play **** for the next 5 games and any potential buyer would ignore it under the current cicumstances, and so would I.
I don't deny he could have worded it better, but I repeat my point that Pardew made pretty much the same comment but gets cut some slack. We seem to have moved from one extreme to the other over the past few years. Not so long ago we had a manager in Ramos who never said a bloody word, and now we have a manager who can't keep his mouth shut. Some of you prefer the Ramos approach and myself I still go with the Harry approach. I guess somewhere in between wouldn't go amiss.
It should not be too difficult for a manager of a top team earning some 2 million pounds a year to concentrate when he speaks to the press and make sure it puts the club and his players in the best light. Everything he says and does should benefit the team and club who are keeping him in the style to which he has become accustomed. That should be the least you expect from such a man in such a position. In this area Harry is an abject failure and at this level that is just not good enough.
Just a thought, don't the players get 'media training'? If they do, then shouldn't someone at the club give Redknapp a quick course?
Someone asked on the Liverpool board, what's best way to get hold of a ticket as he won't get it through the club. It took all my willpower not to tell him to rob a kid on the way like they usually do
