To be honest I thought he'd get off - they often do.
Shameful that just because a girl is too drunk to be aware of what is going on (or has had her drink spiked) that people like Ched Evans think it's not rape.
Some people wanted us to sign him last year!!!!! I wouldn't let him clean my toilet bowl - unless he used his tongue to do it.

Personally, I have no sympathy for him and he deserves everything he's got.
There's been far too many occasions where an alleged assault has taken place involving footballers so maybe a 5 year sentence will make some of them think twice before putting themselves in a similar situation. I know there are some females who will see ££'s but there are also those who don't. None of us do it (I hope) so what makes them think they're untouchable just because they kick a f'kin ball around and have a bit of cash in their pockets.

I am not going to get too deep into what the girl was doing and how it all panned out.....but why is Evans guilty and McDonald not. They both had sex with her?
I agree 100% with H on this. It's about time a verdict was given to prove these over paid prima donnas are not above the law as some seem to believe.
I didn’t understand that either surely what ever the one got so should have the other. After all this was not about forced sex or her saying no this was about the ability to refuse due to being to intoxicated. Surely that can’t off changed between having sex with both men.

Hey Guys I,m no expert, but I think the fact that his brother was there with his mate, and videod the act may have been his ( rightful) downfall? Mc Donald texted him to say "he had a bird" but Evans must have set out with the intention to humiliiate her ( video). I know its supposition but I guess the jury decided that he set out to have sex with her, possibly in her drunken state she was unaware that Evans was having sex,however the law suggests that if there is no consent then its rape? Possibly she could not remember if she agreed to have sex with Mc Donald? All guess work I,m afraid, but the judges full summary may answer the lay mans questions?

Again I'm no expert but I think the distinction is between her going back with McDonald whereas Evans and chums have rocked up while she's completely wasted and taken advantage of the situation.

Bottom line, 12 in the jury listened to the evidence and found him guilty. I feel for the woman involved, she went out for a good time and someone took it too far.
Taff, I respect that. But 12 in the jury doesn't mean that much. I really think Evans will get off on appeal. I am not saying he did not do it, but how the hell can you prove he was not given consent! I feel for the girl if she was taken advantage off, but really how can anybody say she consented or did not consent. There is just no evidence to convict on appeal.
Siam. The law today clearly leaves us with no need to interpret it. It's as straight as this: If you or the girl are not in a position to know for sure whether consent has been given then DO NOT have sex! It's down to us to watch or own backs. If we want to take a chance then...
Ahh. Okay Taffy. The law means that even a very drunk girl saying yes could get you in deep. So yeah, in that case I guess he was always going to be in trouble. The appeal will be interesting.
A different person might have got help for a girl who was completely wasted or had her drink spiked: found her mates, got an ID, found an address, called a taxi, called a copper over, tried to ask her where she lived .. etc .....
What if this had happened to your sister, your daughter, your mother?
It could happen to anyone when blokes like this are prepared to take advantage of a situation.
On a completely subjective note - did you see Ched's photo on the TV. There's a look, it's in the eyes: scum.
Iggy. I have not said that he is innocent or what happened is not terrible. I was solely looking at the evidence (which I don't have inside knowledge to anyway). The girl can't be sure if she gave the first guy consent, so I was just wondering how solid the evidence against Evans was and on appeal it will get thoroughly examined. But since Taffy pointed out the law to me, it would seem the evidence may not have to be as strong as I thought.
If you went out on a date with a girl, drank together as the night progressed and then, as you were both drunk together, proceeded to have sex together with consent, then some may say that a little sympathy may be relevant. However, to go to a hotel room and proceed to have sex with someone who has met up with a friend of yours quite simply stinks.
I can't see any grounds for appeal against the conviction. The best he could hope for is a reduction in the prison term but then again why should he get that?
Iggy - I agree with you wholeheartedly. A better person would ensure that she got home without any harm being caused. Why shouldn't a girl go out and enjoy herself without risk to her safety. We, as guys, don't have to give a second thought to it and at the age of 19 we all did it didn't we? We all went out and drank as much as our legs (or stomachs) would let us. We didn't have to worry about people taking advantage of us. These girls need some protection.
Unfortunately there are some out there who will say that girls should not drink so much if they don't want to put themselves at risk. Just remember that we are talking about young girls here. They have little life experience and little risk awareness. Society today has changed a lot since I was that age. Society now places more emphasis on "what's in it for me?" rather than respect for the other person. It's a real shame but I think that one day the current generation (as parents) will once again start to install proper standards in to our children (or is that too much to ask?).
