    5 year objectives:

    1) 442 wins **** all in the PL. Start getting used to the 4231 system that's being implimented from the bottom up.
    2) Incorporate youth into the first team.
    3) Don't pay anyone more than £40kpw until we're secure in the PL
    4) Don't pay anyone more than £50kpw until we expand the stadium
    5) Stick with Nigel even if we get relegated, he's an excellent manager and continuity is the best way forward.
    6) The best of the FL will give more than the dregs of the PL. Keep the signing of PL journeymen to a minimum.
    7) Don't sign players that are likely to disrupt the camp. It's understandable that quite a few good players will have a very high opinion of themself, but troublemakers are very dangerous.

Aren't we using 4-3-3 system in the youth academy?

Aside from points 3 and 4 I'm with you entirely (point 3 and 4 are good in theory but we need to be flexible). Points 5, 6 and 7 are all very, very important, in particular point 5.

There's a whole new thread there Godders and a bloody good one too.

A good book mentioned in there too. Have you ever read Jack Welch's winning? Good book and it talks about 4E recruitment tp bring in winners and I reckon Nicola follows that. He talks about needing to recruit people in the following 4 e's:

positive Energy - the ability to go go go

ability to Energise others - it rubs off

Edge - the ability to make tough decisions

Execution - the ability to get the job done.

I'm convinced when you look at Nigel, that Nicola followed a similar theme.

I would agree from some stuff I've read and heard, but still has some good bits on that book; particularly tw above that I mentioned. He has destroyed a few people on his path, which is not nice.

When we succeed just think what we could do to joey B and there would be nobody to stop us not even the ECHR.

I bags first and I get to cut his balls off then you can have second go at him.

He's just what you expect from an American entrepreneur and former CEO. Typical hedonist Republican who couldn't give less of a **** about working and middle class people, he's said that there is nothing wrong with how much CEOs earn, criticises Obama (http://www.cnbc.com/id/47035575) and supports liar Mitt Romney. Oh and he lambasts the only Republican in existence who is genuinely honest: http://www.buzzfeed.com/rosiegray/jack-welch-fire-ron-paul

I could go on a while longer as well.

Joe, your knowledge of American politics far surpasses mine. I just know he is ruthless and uncaring having known people who have worked in his companies. I was given his book ages ago but never read it until recently while in hospital after a knee op. The section on recruiting the right people is very good.

You should get into American politics, it's both hilarious and tragic. More so than any book or film.

Who do you think will win the elections?
I think the best choice would be Obama, even though he hasn't done a great job he has been ok,but you never know with those yanks let's not forget that they voted for Bush twice <whistle>...

As usual. StG says a few things that several would not dare to utter, but there are several good points. Yes, I agree, it an option about the Super Club. The population of the Solent metropolis is getting there, so this may be part of Cortese's long term thinking. who knows..?

One thing I am sure about and that Cortese intends to take the Financial Fair Play Rules very seriously indeed. He has mentioned the importance of those right from the beginning of his being at SFC.

Keep in mind also that Nicola advised Markus to buy SFC in the teeth of a European recession. So what..? Well it illustrates that people who understand money and have it at their disposal don't do what the rest of us do. So when we think money is tight, don't automatically think it's the same for them. It may be better to spend now, rather than later. So, for example, you want a new stadium..? Buy it sooner rather than later, while it's cheaper to do so. Do it properly and ultimately you can't lose.

OK, as I asked the question I suppose I ought to put my money where my mouth is, so to speak. I'm not going to fart about with 4-4-2s, 4-3-3s, styles of play, whatever. That's what I employ a manager for, and he knows I want winning football played the Southampton way. So get to it, Mr Adkins, if you please.

For the purposes of this please allow me the assumption of promotion this season. Normally I don't count any chickens, but I'm not being Me at this moment, and so although Nicola will have a backup plan, he'll also have a main plan that starts with promotion this season. OK, Me being Nicola, ambitions to be achieved by the end of 5 years:

    1. Win the Premier League
    2. Expansion of St Marys to 45,000 completed.
    3. Aiming for 33% or more of the first team to be sourced from the Academy, with an absolute minimum of 20%

Right I'll just take my Nicola Cortese mask and cloak off for a second and see what I've written. Blimey, we're not worthy..! :D

Obama will win. We're at that stage where everyone's talking about the Republicans and there's a load of hype, but Mitt Romney (who will almost certainly be the one going up against Obama) is a weak candidate who has done a 180 on almost every issue. Also he's been criticised by all the tea-party lot for not being conservative enough. Then again, Obama has been called such things as "European" and "socialist" which apparently are considered to be bad things by a lot of Americans.

Obama will win purely because Romney is an idiot rather than Obama has been good.

Romney certainly would give Bush a run for his money in the "biggest moron" competition.

Obama is too socialist for a lot of Americans.I'm pretty sure that this is partly due to the fact that they don't want to associate themselves with the ideologies of the former Soviet Union,as by implementing these types of policies will undermine the foundations that have built America so far,Capitalism.
