Charlton have not granted Gary Doherty permission to play against them for Wycombe this weekend. Doherty is on loan at Wanderers from the Addicks, with the two clubs set to meet at The Valley on Saturday in a critical encounter for Wycombe's survival aspirations. The terms of the defender's loan stipulate that he is ineligible against his parent club. However, Wycombe had hoped Charlton would overlook the agreement now that their promotion from League One was confirmed.
I think he should be allowed to play, but you can understand that the club don't want a Marcel Seip situation to occur. He was on loan at Blackpool from Plymouth and actually scored the winner against PAFC - and it caused an understandable outrage against the board for allowing the situation to happen. I guess the club don't want to run a similar risk.
If the Doc was a rock at the back and Wycombe won 0-1, then if we lost at Preston we could end up going into the Hartlepool game hoping we have a better result than the Blades. Not a situation Chris would want to get himself into. Better be safe than sorry!
More to the point, imagine the storm if Doc gave a way a penalty or scored an own goal! Then reappeared after the game to celebrate the leafue title with the charlton players
Probably be as much a 'cult hero' here as he was at Norwich if he did that You guys think he will sign for Wycombe in the summer?
I hope he does too. I have nothing against him as a person and its not like he didn't try for us, so I hope he finds a club where he can play regular football. Didn't he turn down a move to a League Two club last summer saying he didn't want to drop that low? Perhaps (if Wycombe go down) he'll have changed his mind about that.
Will Doc be awarded a winners medal? Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it 10 appearences to be awared a medal, there is a chance he has done that for us at the begining of the season, so will he be recieving one?
He didn't play at the beginning of the season? Unless you're counting the odd sub appearance and cup game?
I read somewhere else that there is an allotted number of medals, with 18 going to the players, so it would be the top 18 players who got medals, so no.
