With Blackburn losing to Swansea at the moment, it looks likely they will go down and Yakubu will be available for a fairly small fee. With Carroll's form improving, I think signing another 30m+ striker would be demoralising for him, and at the end of the day all that we really need is a poacher who will convert a large proportion of the numerous chances we create, and provide an option off the bench. Obviously the Everton connection isnt ideal, and he isn't the star signing people are calling for. But he is a proven goalscorer, and would allow us to save funds in other areas to get a world class winger/central midfielder. Great win today anyway. A potential 2 trophies from 3 competitions after a 6 year drought and being back in europe are big steps in a year of rebuilding. YNWA
Hm I'm not sure, I think we could sign some one a lot better for about the same price. How old is Yakubu? he has to be 30+ at least. I wouldn't complain if he came to us but I just think we could do a lot better than him in the summer. I'd much rather Hoillett from Blackburn if I'm honest.
No. Seems like to much of a short term option. He was on Rafa's shortlist when we signed Morientes. Back then he would have been an awesome signing. But not now.
The only player from Blackburn I'd take, that won't be chased by every top club (basically Hoilett), is Steven Nzonzi as cover for Lucas.
I was talking about players who wouldn't be chased by most clubs (Hoilett) And I don't think Martin Olsson is great personally. He's got a lot of pace but looks ropey at left back and isn't enough of a threat on the left wing.
No. Just no. We don't need to spend big money to bring in the addition we need but we also don't need to scrape the barrel.
He will be another scapegoat (or target for wums) waiting to happen if things start to go wrong. Can't see it anyway.
Whilst he would be cheap and effective, I don't feel he would improve the squad. Suarez and Carroll will be more settled next year, Bellamy has proven he can score given the chance and he'll still be here next year - also Maxi/Kuyt's future isn't decided yet. I think Soldado is a real possibility this summer but not as a replacement for either. Any top team needs options and Suarez/Soldado/Carroll would provide those. As an alternative, Van Wolfswinkle is slightly under the radar but could do a job Edit: Depending on who goes down, I'd strongly consider Chung-Yong Lee of Bolten if we could snap him up cheap and of course Hoilet is on a free but there'll be lots of options for him. If Wigan go down, I wouldn't mind a punt on Moses - I feel he could be a solid option just like Valencia was for Utd.
Spearings Mannschaft Good one JJ As for the Yak no thanks. I wouldn't have minded him as a short term buy in Jan just to fire up our forward line a bit but as a long term option it's a no go IMO. Moses is a good shout, Hoillett looks a prospect, wouldn't mind Jarvis as a second or third choice winger (but not one of our main summer buys) and we could do worse than sniffing around some of Villas youth talent even if they just stay up.
Steven Fletcher as a squad option striker? Big Liverpool fan too and seems to have a decent goalscoring record at Wolves. Stuart Holden maybe? But we have an awful lot of CM's who are able to partner Lucas and none who can adequately replace him so maybe he'd just clog our squad up.
He's not good enough for a team like Liverpool. You need to sign bigger and better players from around Europe. He's a good player, but he's not the type of player who can get you into The champions league
