We have played a lot worse than that and won this season, that was not a bad performance, only a bad result. Reading have a gameplan that works well for them, but I would much rather watch us play. It is pointless picking on individuals for mistakes as any player can make them, Jose and Jos are the best CB pairing since Killer and Claus. I'm not going to lose faith after a slightly unlucky result against a very good Reading team, West Ham could draw tomorrow, but i'm backing us to get the 2 wins we need in our next 3 games, irrespective of what West Ham do.
Massively disappointing but promotion is still very much on the cards. Yes, I wanted the title but, barring a Reading implosion, that's probably gone now.
Exactly you played worse at our place and still came away with the points so it evens itself out over the season
OMG. I came on here to read about a good Saints performance. All my mates who have watched it on tv have been texting me on my way home from match saying how well we played sand that we were dime a bit really by a clinical team who we'd made look ordinary. I've come on here and read this and the ratings thread. You've all peed me right off. You are unbelievable slagging some of the team tonight after that. Yes, a couple of mistakes but overall excellent. You should be ashamed. I'm signing off and going to sleep because I really can't be arsed reading what a bumch of NegHeads think. Bet you're all dancing on the pitch kissing your badges against Coventry!
Exactly. I am disappointed with the result but proud of our team, who should still clinch promotion .
Problem being half of the posters are warbling on about us 'dominating' Reading and how awesome we played. Yes we had a lot of possession, we always do, we had a fair few chances too, but not a huge amount of quality play. Lots of passing but the most dangerous efforts were all from Butterfield crosses and corners!!!
It's the other half who are slagging the team off that get me. We weren't bad tonight. I thought we played well with the exception of three mistakes. We created lots of chances but didn't take them. Reading did a professional job on us, but that doesn't mean we were ****e.
I always got slated for saying Fox uses the long/fancy ball too much lol Anyway, great match today and a really entertaining game and thoroughly enjoyed it - Reading certainly deserve to go up on the run they've had, and there is no shame to losing to a team like Reading! I Just hope we can join them next season
I think if we had played like that and not lost match ratings would have increased and everyone would be eulogising about our team and style of play. No need to panic, promotion is still firmly in our grasp .
Bad luck tonight chaps, I thought you put in some excellent build up moves this evening. Can you believe there is a Leeds fan on the Reading board, accusing them of winning the Championship (which they haven't done yet by any stretch) by cheating and dirty tactics? I've seen it all now. I've given him short shrift, you can be sure of it.
Probably the same Leeds fan who posted this drivel: http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/137298-Bottled-it
I've read people slagging off Guly and he was only on the pitch for 25 minutes! Had 100% pass completion rate! How thick are some people! Someone said Fonte should be dropped etc.. All way over the top!
Hi, thanks for the sympathy although I am not sure we deserve any, we give credit to Reading, learn and move on. It must be pretty galling having all us Saints fans moaning when we lose top spot but are still comfortably in the autos when you guys are on the brink of existence. Good luck against Donny tomorrow.
Quote deleted as was original post Heh, shows quite a bit of confidence in your own team, given that West Ham's only shot at making it to second involves ending whatever playoff hopes Hull has left going into the final game of the year. And I doubt that the team are panicking to anywhere near the same extent as some of our fans. We still only need six points won or dropped by WHU over seven total games to make it. Not too worried.
Thought we played well and anyone else would have been battered. Credit to Reading they played us perfectly and defended like we did when we pinched 3 points off of Leeds at Elland Rd. Lets keep the optimism going. The title is out of our own hands but promotion is not so lets just focus on 6 points from the last 3 and we are up. Although it is out of our hands I still have a feeling Reading may slip up and we could win the league. How about Saints going into the Coventry game 3 points behind Reading and winning while Reading lose away to Brum? Not too far fetched so there is still a lot to be positive about. COYR'S!!
As I have said on another post...we didn't get the rub of the green IMO. I felt the ref had a poor game, seemed to miss the first foul, but blow for the second. Down our chapel end there was a decent penalty shout for Saints some refs would have given it. Fonte had a mare no doubt about that and it isn't worth trying to protect him. By far the worse game of the season for him. He was run ragged by Robertson and caught in possession far too easily. He is normally solid.....their first goal in my opinion should have been cleared by Kelvin he was caught ball watching. A fault of his I have mentioned before not commanding his area enough. Others might say it was Fonte's mistake sadly it was one of three mistakes that the defence were punished for. Once again our possession did not give us the goals we should have had. We are still too inclined to walk the bloody thing in.
Adkins and Butterfield on Player saying what we all know...debrief and move onto Tuesday's game. Oh and good luck to Brighton this afternoon (brave smile).
