Hello all, Yesterday I attended the Stoke Vs Newcastle game. My brother is at uni in Stole and I was up visiting him, we thought it would be good to see a Stoke game. Whilst I enjoyed the game and the atmosphere. I was however absolutely disgusted by the comments of a fan sat behind me. We were sat in the Boothen end. The chap sat behind me was shouting continual abuse at Shola Ameobi everytime he got the ball. There was one point when Ameobi was on the floor injures and this chap yelled out 'Get up you F*****g N****r'. He also made several other comments regarding Ameobis ethnicity and also reffered to several other newcastle players as Gypos and c***s. I am sorry to bring this up but i was so disgusted by his behaviour. I just wanted to know your opinions on this and I want to know what you think I should do, I'm considering reporting it to the club, but I don't want to make trouble at somewhere I'm not a regular
I am disgusted by this, I thought we were past this. We do have some idiots at our club. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. I personally would support you reporting this to the club.
Whilst it's unacceptable in today's society it's part and parcel of the game I'm afraid. Can't really see how reporting it to the club is really going to do anything as the fan in question would just simply deny it. I think the fact a young lad of about 7 two seats from me got hit with a bottle from the Newcastle fans was way more serious!
Personally both incidents are as bad as each other in their different ways. I would definitely report the racist abuse. Whether he denies it or not, it will put the wind up him. I thought this bigotry went out in the 80s and there is no place for it full stop. By not reporting it we condone it basically. I'll get off my soap box now
It's way out of order and I would report it too Stoke City F.C. regualar or not, no one should have to sit next to an idiot with no more than half a dozen brain cells. He may well be a S/Ticket holder? Note the seat number and report it, I certainly would have. We've had this " Raisist out" campaign going for quite some time. It does actually advise ANYONE who hears anything. To report it to a Steward. Hope you enjoyed the game and it didn't spoil your'e day too much? It's no wonder we all get tarred with the same brush. This guy should be banned, end of story. Wadda, I hope that little lad is OK mate?
This sort of thing isn't acceptable these days, but I've always wondered what IS acceptable? We've had a thread about peoples reactions to gay footballers, and everyone agrees that insulting them about that is wrong, but what about calling Barton a "Scouse prick"? as half the stadium were? And as mentioned in this thread, it's quite common for long haired players to get called "Gypo", and there's a whole list of insults that go out to players that are really short, really tall, ugly, bald, the southerners are fairies and the northern ones are brainless apes. Where do you draw the line? Obviously no one wants fans shouting the "N-word" at black players, but it would get a bit boring if no one got any insults at all. . .
Potts yeah luckily it hit him on the arm and the plastic coke bottle was only half full, just enough to give it a bit of velocity! Newcastle fans also threw coins at Pennant when he was taking the corners down by block 10. Police hopefully got them on video as a steward said they were about to be arrested !
gotta say the R word is the biggest word in the in the ENGLISH dictionary nowadays ....... Its a load o OLLOX .. for gods sake where does it end ? Pile o crap We are English and proud FULL STOP !
Yes, but black people are allowed to be English and proud as well, and they shouldn't have to put up with abuse just because of their skin colour.
What about the Newcastle fan who could clearly be seen on TV doing Nazi salutes (complete with finger Hitler tash) at Huth, just as racist, both the actions of idiots who shouldn't be allowed at matches...
Hi Sarge no ..... but dont u get fed up of the same old crap coming up all the time ? Like i say the only word left is the R word ... its a joke .. lets just keep bending over and we will be ok !!!!!! FED UP OF RACIST crap .. its all a cover up for normal natural life . but a long as the minority get sorted we will all be ok ! the same people that dont work get free housing and everything paid for .. what a winner .. lets bring more of these people into our country ! Yes i am diversiving but im fed up of the the old Racist card ! YE and so is most of the UK !
There are some times when people play the racist card when it's not appropriate, but somebody calling a footballer a "f***ing n***er" is not one of those occasions. It's racist abuse, and has nothing to do with immigration, or social welfare. And you can't just immigrate the the UK from outside the EU to claim council housing or benefits, unless you're going to be killed or tortured in your own company. You need a work permit, which almost always requires a job offer, or else an offer to study in the UK. Most current migrants are making a very valuable contribution to the UK economy.
The guy calling Ameobi a N*****, the guy doing the Nazi salute at Huth, all the guys I've heard calling Ji Sung Park "slanty" or "gook". I'll bet a good portion of them aren't even racist. It's just the first thing that comes to mind on seeing someone that gets shouted at them. I'll be most people wouldn't even think about calling them that outside of the ground. It's a football match, fans are wound up, and they're shouting anything that comes to mind to wind the players up. I remember a lad getting kicked out of school for calling someone a "paki", this guy wasn't racist in the slightest, he's walking down the corridor, Pakistani youth pushes into him and calls him a fat ginger bastard, lad turns round and called him a "P**i ****" He gets kicked out, other youth gets nothing. Apparently when the head asked him why he'd said it the response comes "He insulted me, I insulted him back, that was the first thing I noticed. If I'd seen the size of his nose I would have used that instead." Does that sound racist to you?
Not particularly, but when there is a whole lot of very real discrimination against ethnic minorities, it's at best horrifically insensitive to use the very words the actual racists are using as pejoratives. And to be fair, if the first thing you notice about someone is their race, that's often a sign of an underlying racist attitude. I'd be far more inclined to call Ameobi a fat lazy overpaid talentless ****er than a n***er.
"and also reffered to several other newcastle players as Gypos and c***s" i would say thats a fair assessment...
Hey guys. Jub here I am back I HATE racism, I think its degrading, immature, pathetic, and not "clever" - but sadly its a part of football, and SHOULD BE KICKED OUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. It makes me so angry I hope al players affected by racist abuse, deal with it sensibly and remember that the daft, insulting tossers that persist with insulting people because of creed/colour/ethnicity have nothing better to do but jibe.
Hi Jub, Whilst i agree with you totally....... unfortunately if there any miss interpretations between any colour be it English and who knows what in our country or of race and colour .. if there EVER becomes a problem or an arguement the same old Race card comes out for the simple reason... its an easy get out ! Us English are classed as Racist full stop .. So on reflection when problems arise between 2 cultures why is it we are be being r\cist ? its bullshit and we all know it ! Its too easy now to embrace all that are in the uk and without visas etc because simply there is no control anymore... The UK is now a breeding ground for all that now **** in her ! and by the way i dont say these words lightly !!!!! If anybody wishes to reply contrary crack on ... im all ears ???
I think I understand what your saying - that everyone jumps on the "racist-card" sort of thing, and the word "racist" is just an "escape goat" for actual, decent, respectable problems? So basically if two ethnicitys clash, over something not to do with race etc, its fine, as it is. I mean if I a black person (I am white) and myself were arguing about the goverment and the price of petrol or something, it would be fine, but if I started calling him nasty untypeable names, THEN it would be racism. I do see where your coming from, I just think people need to recognise normal, sensible rifts between black people and white people, and only recognise it as racism when the "W" word is used or any other disgusting similar term.
