If you had to pick one game to win out of Portsmouth and Reading, with the other being a defeat, what would you pick? Bragging rights, or increased chance of the Premiership? I would pick the Reading game personally, even though there's nothing better than beating Portsmouth, I think we'll have enough bragging rights when we're in the Prem and they're in League 1 ;)

Reading, we'll all forget about losing to Portsmouth if we go up, but if we stay down beating Portsmouth isn't much consolation.

Oh of course this is preferred! If it was purely one or the other, it's Reading any day

The way I see it: we would still have a great chance of going up if we beat Pompey and lose to Reading - but they'll then be strong favourites to win the title. So the implied question is essentially a choice between:

    a) Lose to Pompey but win the league.

    b) Beat Pompey but finish 2nd.

    I'd be happy with either!

Losing to Portsmouth will almost certainly mean going into the Palace game with just a three point lead over West Ham. It will also mean back-to-back defeats for us. The pressure on us going to Palace would be immense. No. Thank. You. And besides, it's West Ham who we're trying to stay ahead of, not Reading. They can win the league if they want.

Win against Pompey please. Then another against Palace.

Beat Reading, win the league. No brainer. Pompey can have their day in the Sun.

    Course, I'd rather win both.

Win against Pompey and draw against Reading, with us both still going up. Simples.

OK, forget all about the fantasy then. Look at it this way - achieve at least 12 points from the last 18 possible and WHU have to win every single match, and by large margins, to overcome our goal difference. Point is, they won't, so Saints are promoted if they achieve 12 points. 3 on Saturday will be a good start. What Reading do will be up to them. Us beating them won't help their cause.

The two situations (taking into account a Reading win on tomorrow and Monday and a win for us vs Palace):

    1) We win at Portsmouth and lose to Reading - By the end of next Friday we would be one point behind Reading

    2) We lose to Portsmouth but win against Reading - By the end of next Friday we would be two points clear at the top of the league!

If my Maths is correct (and please correct me if I'm wrong) but there is only one clear answer in our push for the title! :)

Beat Pompey 100%. Don't care if we finish 2nd and so I know where I would rather pick up 3pts

Portsmouth are quite insignificant now as far as Saints are concerned.

Our new rivals are Reading and Brighton and I will keep on saying it until you all realise the truth of what I am saying.

We can afford to lose to PFC but dare not lose to Reading.

Nonsense Godders - Skates will always be our derby rivals, and long may it be so. I really hope they don`t go bust. As far as staying clear of 3rd place, its 3pts for a win v skates, 3pts for a win v Reading.

You keep on with generalisation ALL, StG. I would really appreciate it if you could find another word, because I'm getting a little peed off being herded in with others opinions on the importance of Pompey or other subjects that you consider yourself to have a solo opinion on.

I don't mind you saying most, some, the majority, etc...
