I fully admit, this is nicked from 5Live's Fighting Talk on a Saturday morning but it is an opportunity to get something (not football related) off your chest. Hopefully topical but doesn't have to be.
I'll start the ball rolling with Alex Salmond - all politicians are smug and get on your T**s but this guy looks like he could happily drink his own bath water. And while I'm on politics, Cameron and Osborne have faces that look like they have just smelt something unpleasant and that makes me feel ill. Mini-rant over, it's all yours.........
 
One thing that really gets to me is the way people ruin our National Anthem. Okay, it may not be to everyone's liking, but it is ours!!
When it is played, especially at football matches, why oh why do we get so called singers who do nothing but bastardise it by singing it wrongly!! At the end of the anthem, the tune goes down in steps, NOT up!!
It is a National Anthem, not a bloody great big Hollywood finishing spectacular. In case you hadn't noticed, I feel quite strongly about this. How the hell can these so called singers say they are proud to be British, and that it is an honour to be asked to sing our National Anthem, when as soon as they do it, they absolutely bastardise it!!!!!!!
If they did that anyone else's national Anthem, there would be uproar and apologies made of a Cuthbert Cringeworthy proportion, so why do it to ours. FA, do not use singers. Get a proper recording to play, or better still, use a good military band like you used to!! The number of times I've tried to ring 5live after an England game to complain!! Rant over, until the next international.

There's no-one more patriotic and proud of their country than me maestro, but I have to say that our national anthem is not the most uplifting to say the least if you ask me. However, 'Land of Hope and Glory', now that's a tune. It builds up to a crescendo at the end and the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. If that was played before England internationals at Wembley the place would be rocking ! <ok>

There is one version of our National Anthem that was arranged by one time master of the Queen' music, Gordon Jacob, that I have played many times, and I defy anyone who is British not to have the hairs on the back of the neck standing up.

Agree with kio, Land of Hope & Glory should be used more. It's used at medal ceremonies at the Commonwealth games for the England winners, so why not for England football games.

FFS just because we finally have some sunny weather does not mean that you have the ability to weave through traffic like Barry Sheene in his pomp. You are not in a video game. If you hit something else on the road you are going to get seriously damaged and delay my journey down the Acle straight. Every Spring we seem to need to have two or three serious accidnets on the A47 before you stop riding like tw*ts. I know it's not always your fault but if I were you I'd assume that the van won't stop rather than chance it. He gets a damaged bumper but you could die.

Can we, the general public, just have one week where you don't threaten to go on strike because you don't like the colour of the sky, the shape of the number three or the taste of spinach. I am sick to the teeth of well-paid tanker drivers holding the country to ransom over nothing, doctors compaining about NHS reforms - you're paid £60k-£100k, have excellent working conditions so just f*cking do you jobs like the rest of us - try working down a mine or in a factory for a 12 hour shift and then complain. Teachers, again stop whining. Yes if the curriculum changes you have to do a bit more work but you strike and you don't hurt the Government, they just save on your wages but you make the rest of us have to take time off to look after the kids. Take action during the 13 weeks or so holiday you get every year to go and protest and maybe you will get a bit more sympathy and respect.

Basically we all know that times are tough but it seems to me that most people get on with it and others use it as an opportunity to try and get one over on everyone else. Some used to have cast-iron pensions and good luck to them but the country cannot afford to keep shelling out so suck it up like the rest of us. I am not thrilled as I will probably have to work until I'm 70 and then not have a guaranteed pension but that is the way things are and throwing my toys out of the pram is not going to make things better.

I cannot really see why there are national anthems any more in any form of life. What do they do? Is it supposed to be a mark of respect?
I laugh when I see half the English rugby team not singing because they aren't British let alone English. The other lot that are sing it until they are purple because it is supposed to psyche them up. Yet the football team dont sing at all, probably too many multi syllable words.
We used to rush out of the cinema before the film finished so we didn't have to stand for the anthem. And I certainly don't stand when its played anywhere.
Many nations see it as a sign of patriotism and allegiance and have their hand on their heart. I lived in New Zealand for many years and if those two words weren't used in every sentence at least twice it was classed as treason. So their anthem is all about God defending their land and freedom.
Why does God have to be used in the lyrics? I certainly don't believe in any omnipotent deity. And according to researchers, there are 2870 versions of God. So which one do we wish to save our Queen?
The tune of our national anthem is used by many other nations in some form and to be honest I think it is a bit of dirge. Jerusalem, one of the hymns at my wedding, is far more stirring even if the lyrics are a bit trite. Land of Hope and Glory is another stirring piece of music but the lyrics are as meaningless as Werewolf of London is to tourism.
Anthems are a bit like the Queens Speech. Past their sell by date and memories of a bygone age when nobody admitted their was bad in the world.

Couldn't agree more. I think our anthems score is also used by Luxembourg although it's a fair bet that if you hear it during the Olympics it will probably be one of ours getting a medal.

Only a matter of time before they go for another Anschluss so the anthem being called Austria is irrelevant. that said Greece will probably become "New South Germany" before this happens.
 
People who complain about the way female TV presenters are dressed, who cares if you can see the top half of a tit or not, or what colour their blouse is....They need to get a ****ing life!!!!!!!

Just give up on the Falklands. You don't own them, the people there don't want to join you, you have no historic claim to them and if the "proximity" argument held any water you may as well try to take over Uruguay. For the decendants of the Conquistadores to bang on about colonialism is a tad rich. We all know that if there was no oil and you economy was anything other than an utter shambles you wouldn't give a toss. You may want it, it may be in your constitution but sometimes you can't get everything you want. If you spent less time sabre-rattling and trying to stir up trouble for the locals by trying to get the rest of South America to blockade their ports and concentrated on sorting yourselves out I think we would all be a lot happier.

I must caveat this by saying I have been there and it is a lovely country with much in common - friendly, passionate people with a love of sport, good food and wine and it is such a shame that they will not let this go. It is all about the politicians there stirring things up to keep themselves in power. Sad.
 
People like Alan Sugar and the Dragons who basically sit there and take the p*ss out of people who are trying to do their best. It is all to make them look good. Similarly presenters like Paxman and Humphreys who ask questions and then interrupt the answers and just override the whole interview. They try and look clever and the poor listener never learns anything.
 
People that always turn a statement into a question at the end? For example someone might say "I had a great time down the pub last night?" <grr> Learn to speak properly FFS!
