Been linked to him again, in the highly reliable mirror, due to Eddie Howe saying he could be sold in the summer http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/tra...Burnley-star-Jay-Rodriguez-article886732.html Thoughts?
This. Very happy to get Jay if we can. Nigel is clearly an admirer after how long the "will we, won't we" saga dragged on.
No, no and no! He asked for way to much back in the summer and was apparently laughed out of the building. He is a big ego that we do not need at this club!
I've only ever heard good things about his character? Asking for a lot is a normal part of negotiation, anyone should know that, if he was "laughed out of the building" then we're extremely unprofessional - odds are this is a huge exaggeration through hearsay on Twitter.
If we go up, even if we don't, can only see us having 3 out and out strikers from the current squad at the start of next season (Lambert, Lee and Sharp). Don't see Rodriguez joining if we don't go up though, and even if he does, is he that much better than those 3? I am genuinely asking as I have seen very little of him.
I rate him higher than Sharp (and I do rate Sharp), and we've not seen enough of Lee to say for sure.
Burnley said last time that they never accepted a bid for Jay. Saints offered about £4m-£5m and Burnley wanted £6.5m. As far as I am aware they never even got to the talking stage?
Sounds promising then, hes going into his last year of his contract aswell so could be bought reasonably cheaply, if he is looking to move
Yes PLEASE get him on board, then ship off Barnard and Forte (Barnard may still proof okay for Championship but i think if we went up it would be a step to far)
Forte's 2 goals against MKD were pivotal last season...be nice if Barney could make an important contribution after a very frustrating season for him.
I'd take him, he's not as good as Lambert of course but he'd give us some of what we miss when Lambert is unavailable. And he's not a bad player in his own right of course.
Would be good i'd say we need 4 first choicers in lambo, jay, lee and sharp (in that order maybe sway lee and sharp) and a youth striker in the prem.
I'm sure he was not actually laughed out of the building. Anyway the way January went, I still think Nigel's no.1 target will be Hooper.
He was awful when he came to St Mary's his year. We don't need a pacey striker. We need a big strong forward as was proved when we played Blackpool at the weekend
Jay Rod is very good in the air and has pace. Or would you prefer somebody who's just good in the air with nothing else to his game?
