Yes, before all you haters moan.... its in the Sun. I am FULLY AWARE of this haha. It isnt in stone and isnt on the OS.

However, we have been rumoured to be interested in this signing, promoted or not.

How would people feel if this was completed? Would Hooiveld and Fonte cut it in the Prem. Would this mean the door for the likes of Seabourne?

    Thought???

    Do me a favour .....

    1. It's The Sun
    2. We are no longer the rest home for knackered footballers
    3. This guy can't hack it for Stoke. Why should he get in any premiership first team?

Agreed. But is this or is this not a forum for open discussions... INCLUDING RUMORS

I dont believe he would be a negative additon but i also feel like you, that he may be a little old to suit the forward thinking we are heading towards.

    Do me a favour......

Continue to provide your opinions and allows others to also :)

Stoke are a better team then you. If he cant make it at Stoke he goes to a lesser team - you. Simple

A few years ago, definately. If we plan to use Hooiveld and Fonte as our first choice pairing next season, I'd sooner have someone lower key as cover.

Itchen North Matt - good point. I dont feel someone with a 'reasonably' high profile name would enjoy warming the bench behind 'lesser' experienced players.

And also, if we get promoted, and Upson cant get into other prem teams. lets be realistic, we would welcome his quality regardless. We arent bigger nor better than any prem team on merit currently

I love them but Hooiveld and Fonte is not a partnership good enough to survive in the pl. Ive said this before, we will need to sign a good 30+ year old cb with experience and whos done it all before, for example an o'shea like signing. Upson comes under the experienced 30+ year old, but not so much under the good part lol.. We will need a similar cm.

What's an Arsenal fan doing on the saints board do you report back to Wenger if we make a thread about a talented youngster?

He's only 32, he can't be that knackered. We seem to have much better fitness training that most teams, so maybe we would be able to revive his career.

Swansea and Norwich have done alright defensively without adding 'Premier League experienced' defenders.

Signing a big name Premiership reserve on high wages is essentially the opposite of what I expect Nigel to do this Summer.

I wasn't trying to be a dick there. Actually quite enjoy whats happening at saints and have a lot of time for them.

I know you dont want to stay lesser but saying because he doesn't get a game at Stoke means he won't get a game for you is a tad derogatory. He is more than good enough to steady the ship for the first season back in the PL then build on survival - sort of like Stoke have. Who knows FA cup finals and Europe might be at St Marys again.

You watch. We will sign a proven defender who is at very youngest 28 over the summer if we go up. Remember we have already been linked with Upson, tried to sign Collins and Ridgewell (Ridgewell is 27 granted but still matches my description of premier league experienced). Also experience does not necessarily equal big wages. By that logic Connolly should be our highest earner.
