I usually ignore moments of bad sportsmanship when a player dives as they are usually booked. But, when I saw Carroll's dive on MOTD 2 yesterday I was absolutely outraged!
Why fall down when there is plenty of space in front of you to regain your composure and score into an empty net? He had an opportunity to justify his large fee in front of his former club and he completely messed it up. He could have had a goal against his former club and Liverpool could have gone on to win the game.
Torres' £50mill fee when he first moved to Chelsea was perhaps justified, but £35mill for Carroll was a huge mistake. I know Carroll has had a bad time in front of goal for Liverpool, as has Torres for Chelsea but at least Torres tries and he appears to have now turned a corner.
As another poster said on this forum following Muamba's cardiac arrest, players such as Carroll and Drogba need to stop play acting - looking like they have a serious injury then shortly afterwards running around like nothing happened.
I would like to see a lot less cheating in football. If rugby can manage it, so can football. Players need to take a leaf out of fellow professionals in football, such as Arshavin pointing to the corner flag when he tripped and fell resulting in the referee awarding a peanlty, and in many other sports.
