Do you remember last year towards the end of the season it was discussed as a possibility that we might have a clean-sweep of southern success, with Saints, Brighton and Bournemouth all going up? Well, there is a possibility of another similar southern coup-Saints look odds-on for promotion, Reading seem to have timed their run to perfection to just eclipse the Hammers for the second auto berth and....well, Brighton are well placed for the play-offs.
Personally I think that the first two are likely, but probably Brighton would not be considered favourites. However you feel about Poyet, it would put the South more on the footballing map and that would be a good thing, particularly as another local team might well be slipping off the Radar!:)

My god - "Reading seem to have timed their run to perfection to just eclipse the Hammers for the second auto berth"

There are 6 hard games for us to go, no way are we home and dry yet...

Let's just start with Pompey and see how we go from there.

I was only talking about possibilities here, but I understand the caution. I must say that Reading do seem to have more momentum than the Hammers at the moment, don't you think?

For sure Reading have momentum, but WHU played quiet well yesterday and it seems it was one of those days.

Point i will make though is for them to overtake us they realistically need to win two and draw one as we lose three - this will not be easy for them - particularly with six games left.

However this weekend for me is vital - the Pompey game is a leveller for league position for me - and WHU go to Barnsely who have faield to score in about 400 games! I expect them to win this one and I think if we win then we have virtually crossed the finish line...

Although I do fully expect us to beat Pompey and convincingly IF Lambert is fit.

It would be good, even though Brighton are not that well liked down here. All three are well run, have great facilities and haven't thrown money at the league. But if Saints and Reading finish top two I would have to go for Blackpool, not just on yesterday's performance but because they have the attacking talent, play-off experience and a favourable looking last six games.

I totally agree with you. I am just not sure that I want us to have to play them twice next season!;)

If we get automatic promotion, we surely would want the weakest team possible to come up through the play-offs? And on the assumption that Hull probably wont make it, I think I'd say that team is Boro.

I think the playoff winner will be the team in the best form, i.e. not the team in 3rd.

Thank you Channonfodder. You of all people should remember that people on here mocked me when I said that Reading and Brighton were our rivals now.

Both WHU and Reading play on Friday..let's hope at least one slips up so we go into the weekend matches in a strong position. I would expect us to win both games at SMS and Selhurst Park but nothings certain so others dropping points will be useful. After this weekend only 4 games left...the autos could be sorted very soon.

Can it be considered a Southern clean sweep, when Pompey have failed so miserably?

Or is this a ironic way of highlighting that fact CF?

    And what of Dogdoo town?

Reading are not in the south. They are level with London, so we all raving about Chelsea and Spurs then?

Very good point that Red, I'm surprised Godders hasn't quoted them as your new rivals by now.

Well there are only 3 places available for promotion, Meowth. What were you hoping for? "League makes special arrangement for Pompey" sounds like such an unlikely headline! No, Pompey will have to wait until next season to come up. Or back up, as the case may be.:)

I'm pretty sure if Brighton went up, the media would be fawning all over them as normal
