Almost unnoticed Aston Villa are being sucked into the mire at the bottom. A couple of weeks ago they were ten points ahead of the bottom five, now they can hear the thundering hooves of the chasing pack as the gap is four points to Bolton and five to ourselves Balckburn and Wigan. They are being vilified (no pun) by their supporters and McLeish has a massive job on his hands with the fans squarely against him and the team suffering as a result. One team always crashes down the table in the run-in and Villa might just be that team. Suddenly there is a ray of light..
Theyd be in trouble in a normal season, 35 points will be enough to stay up so they will steer clear.
It's a pity the gap wasn't closed sooner, had they only had 3 or 4 points advantage with say 10 games to go they would be really struggling, I suspect that they just have enough points to stay clear, but i hope i'm wrong!!!
Their game in hand is Bolton. They've also got to play Utd, Liverpool, Sunderland and Spurs. They could just about get sucked in.
Bully boy 35 points wont be enough this season. Blackburn ,us and Wigan have 28 and Bolton 29 points with 7-8 match to left. Wolves is out but all the others have played so well recently ,that i believe 38-39 points will be the safety line as it use to be.
Quoted to add they've also got an away derby at West Brom and a kind of derby at home to Stoke. They might have to go to Norwich on the last day needing a result.
