I doubt he'll get the Norwich POTY as for a FB to get such an award, you have to be absolutely outstanding and be putting in MOM performances pretty much all the time, and I doubt Naughton has been doing that. Mind you, I was at Carrow Road on the last day of the 79/80 season when a certain Norwich FB got the POTY award before the last game of the season against Derby, and that FB was our very own Kevin Bond, so it can happen.

If he is the solid, if not spectacular, player CanarySpurs says he is, I'm all for him sticking around - a grafter who the opponents underrate but he keeps them in his pocket is a good option for when we need to play him. People have been underestimating Benny for years, and that hasn't done any harm to him or for the team in general.

I seem to remember Everton only being in for Naughton and I thought when we got them both that Walker might've been a bit of an afterthought like when we got Dawson in the deal that got us Reid.

I'd like to see Naughton given a real go with us next season, if he's happy to stay with us. He seems to have stepped up to the Premier League well enough from the little I've seen of him this season and we've given more chances to worse players in the past.

I wouldn't disagree with that either, steady PL FB, but not top4/CL standard. <ok>

btw. I see Dartford comfortably beat a somewhat weakened Charlton in the Kent Senior Cup, Jimmy's a bit disappointed really, he knows he won't get another chance to get a team like Charlton in a final. Apart from that he's fed up of losing to Dartford! <laugh>. Just waiting for the date and ground now. :)

A certain Adam Drury got it in 2003, so it is possible. I still can't see past Grant Holt for the award though, in what would be his third consecutive win.

In your first point I was going to say similar, I'm sure the majority thought KN was better than KW, which was why I thought his fee was more, but the minority appear to know what they're talking about.

Your 2nd point, KW for the CL hopefully, and important PL games, KN the rest.

Wasn't it £8m for the pair?
I seem to remember Sheffield United fans on old606 telling us that Walker was the better prospect of the two, but Naughton was currently better, if I recall correctly.

I'm all for Naughton being given a shot at cementing a place in the squad next season.
Hopefully we'll rotate a little more sensibly and he'll get enough game time to keep him happy, too.

  9. This will be merely one of the benefits for the club, should Harry leave.

It's a shame (well not really) that we've got Walker as Naughton seems a really good prospect. Unfortunately, he'll never really beat Walker to our RB position ans someone like Naughton is too good for a bench role. Whenever I've seen bits of Norwich, he's always looked good. If we could get around £4m/£5m for him I think we should take it.
Smith can play back up to Walker next year (providing Charlie leaves on a perm), he impressed me when he was at MK Dons and then he got a move to Leeds in which he was playing reguarly but then we recalled him. Got U-21 experience this year too so why not give him the chance to battle Walker?

I hope for his sake Norwich do sign him, as if he returns to spurs his career will go backwards and just be used sparingly as a sub here and there, better that he is a first team regular for a good club like Norwich.

Unfortunately instead of talking to the press he should have let his football do the talking. Livermore and Walker have done just that and taken their chances when they came along.

Has he played left back at all. Apparently did for the blades?

  14. We could always loan him out again to Norwich, next season.

I don't see the point in getting shot of the lad simply because we don't need him, this instant.

Anyway, if we get CL footy, we're probably going to need him, at least up until the January transfer window.
