Kyle Naughton found it very difficult to settle in the south following his transfer to Spurs and what with not getting regular football in his early days at the club, was very keen to get a loan move or a permanent move, nearer the north. That he has now been at Norwich some while and been playing every week, may well mean he is now more settled. However, his situation at Spurs is not clear. Whilst many fans think his ability to play at both RB and LB, means his utility has to be used, added with the fact that Corluka will almost certainly be away from the club in the summer, then it seems his future at WHL might look bright. However, there are members of the senior coaching staff at the club, who remain dubious about his ability to cut it at the top level. I think a decent offer for the player from Norwich, or even someone else, might tempt the club to let him go.
How about if we let you beat us at The Lane and smash the Gooners and Scousers for you, can we have him for free on those terms?
Ah, now you're talking I used to live in Norwich, a fine City with a decent and well run football club. I wish you all well. On The Ball City
i remember Norwich,Not happily,i was there when Sutton were beaten 8-0,after the Coventry giant killing. Also played them at home the next season in a pre- season friendly, done better, only lost 8-1
Yes, ive only been to one away game all season and that was anfield so it will be nice to go to a proper ground and watch us play away to a proper club, don't fancy our chances however
Hi Spurcat, didn't we pay something like 10m for both Kyles, I can't recall if it was an even split 5m each, or what, but I can't see a sale figure being too much higher than 5 for Naughton.
Evening Notso Can't remember what we paid for them mate, or what the split was. I do remember we were desperate to get them and when it was reported that Everton were moving in for them, Harry sent Kevin Bond up to Sheffield to clinch the deal. Nothing strange in that you might think. Except that this was done on a Friday night when Spurs were playing a pre-season friendly at Bournemouth, where Bond was living at the time. I actually saw Naughton's debut for us, it was a pre-season game at Aldershot and he played the 2nd half at LB. That was the night when Adel Taarabt was yanked off by Clive Allen for being totally crap, threw his shirt at Allen, Harry shook his head and unloaded Adel off to QPR within the next hour
Our new manager may change things up and give fringe players like Naughton, Krancjar, Corluka, GDS, Bentley etc a chance that Redknapp won't and that could save us money in the transfer market.
I have since found a couple of articles saying it to be in the region of 10, I just have it in the back of my mind Naughton was a bit dearer rather than 50/50, but never mind, my point is I thought they were quite expensive for youngsters who'd not played any part of a PL game. I first saw KN in a pre-season game v Fiorentina and thought he looked tidy and quite lively, his form must have fell off in training with his homesickness. I do recall the KB thing, I think Harry pulled rank!...stuff going all the way up there, you can do that! I remember the Taarabt thing, I'm wondering if I watched it online, as I also remember a particularly crap first 45 from him, including stepping over his own stepovers!....mind you, most of them were like that!
He's always looked tidy enough and lively enough, but without being overly spectacular. It's good to hear our friend from Norwich on this article, saying positive things about Naughton, but the reality is, that at the moment, he is nothing more than a run-of-the-mill FB. Well in my opinion anyway
I've seen him several times at Carrow Road (whilst staying with my parents in Norwich) and like you say he's been solid, without getting the headlines - but has been mentioned as being in with a shout in the Norwich player of the year award. I personally would rather have him as backup than an unhappy Corluka.
I spent an afternoon in Norwich, never again. Blame the University of East Anglia for tainting my view of the city...
