If we can't afford him then we have to move on. Simple as that, really.

We could sign a bunch of strikers for about 50p in the summer, for some reason.
Players like Olic, Pogrebnyak, Rodallega, Kalou, Farfan, Petric, Kanoute are all out of contract, though most of them are probably unsuitable.

We need to make sure that we've got suitable back-up for whoever we end up singing though, if we stick with the current system.
Losing the whole style and set-up because of one absence is just stupid.
 
IF the report is true, have we not just put on the a table our best offer, pretty much? I know an agent/Ade are likely to reject a first offer... but we can't really improve it?!

GH10 - I did not realise that Ade's assists were so high. he does not get enough credit for that. but at the end of the day, we can't afford much more than 100k p/w... so what do we do? we may be forced into looking at other targets.
 
I have always liked him as a player. But, I'd have to agree with the consensus view here. If he's going to be greedy, then let him go to Russia or China. Those are the only places he's going to get the sort of money City were stupid enough to pay him, nowadays.

Pobrebnyak is probably the only one i'd look at amongst that line up. seems to be doing well so far, but it's early days.

comes back to a point that many keep making. we need world class now. it's the next step. if we don't get players of that standard, we can't expect to compete at that level. simples. ;)

we're at a crossroads now.

i don't know what i'd do with myself if we signed Kalou. I can't stand him.

Cavani will certainly fit into our wage structure (he's on something like £45-50 per week at Napoli), and I wouldn't be surprised if Gomez was also on similar wages. The issue being do they want to join a club and grow together, or cash in ASAP and go for massive wages?

If you factor in fee and wages, would Ba be any cheaper than Ade on a 'free'?

Is Ba any better than Ade? I don't know, but Ba I rate highly, as I do Ade.

Exactly Roo, for team morale, it's highly unlikely we can afford the type of wages Ade wants. If he loves it at Spurs, he'll have to take a pay cut.

But IMHO we won't get in someone as good as Ade if he leaves.

I think we've really missed Berbatov and we've never replaced him. that bloke oozed class at WHL. - best first touch I think I've ever seen. I think he'd edge it for me too.

the more this discussion is going on, the more i'm realising (with facts provided by yourself and others) that Ade needs to remain a spurs player. he's playing arguably his best football in a long time, he loves it here and he seems really happy with his team mates. but like we say, he's got to meet us half way.

this still doesn't rule out the fact that we need another addition to the strike force though! ;)
 
It's all well and good saying 'Demba Ba has a £7m release clause' but doesn't this only mean Newcastle have to listen to offers over that amount (not actually sell him for £7m)?

His actual value is probably £25m at least now (if we're going on the recent trend). Of course if you compare Ba with Torres and then look at Torres' £50m tag, Ba is probably worth about £100m <laugh>
 
This is a situation that really calls for a fair compromise. Both sides, I think, lose out if Ade leaves. I don't blame him for wanting to make as much money as he can. Most would do the same. I certainly don't blame Spurs for not just wanting, but needing, to hold the line on wages. But I would think reasonable people could find a way to work something out.

Put it another way. If Ade leaves, both he and Spurs are likely to be worse off, all things considered. It's true, he hasn't been a very good finisher, but he really is the right piece in the puzzle, and has had a lot to do with Spurs better play this year. He was second in the league in assists, last I checked, behind Silva, and I think that does reflect how central he's been in creating opportunities.

Finally, I see no reason at all to take this article seriously. Can't blame journalists for finding things to write about, but this is one of the many that will tend to hurt, not help the cause.
 
I am not entirely convinced that Ade is an ideal longer term signing although I think he has done a decent job for us.
However, I do not understand why so many appear to be ready to believe a totally unsubstantiated rumour that is attributed to either TalkShit or the Fail. Neither exactly have a record for accuracy or credibility.
He hasn't shown any negatives in his time with us: he has worked hard, missed very few games injured and all his public comments have been extremely positive. if his 3 legit goals had stood his account would be more than acceptable.
As was mentioned above, if he does ultimately shun a permanent move to us on the basis of asking for unrealistic terms, then on the basis of his comments to date he will be subject to ridicule. But until that happens I would think that he deserves the benefit of the doubt.
Just my humble opinion.....

Aye, if a club makes an offer for the fee set in the release clause then the player can force through the transfer if he wants to move on.

why are you surprised? people believe any gossip as most feel that if its printed there must be some truth to it.
 
I guess I am disappointed that our own fans on this Forum appear to be quick to accept it as genuine. We have enough previous examples to surely know better.
Generating a somewhat 'anti-Ade' debate should surely and primarily be the duty of WUM's?
As I said, I am certainly not convinced that he is necessarily worth a serious longer term investment, but from his efforts so far I wouldn't be so quick to find reason to vilify him.

£25mm? Not with his history of serious injury.

I don't think many here are anti-Ade. Most of us are anti unecessary greed, though.
