After such a wonderful season and one of remarkable consistency for us I wondered what our view is of our best and worst results. Answering my own question I would offer the home game to WBA as the low point and the best would be a toss up between the Swansea away win and the Anfield draw. It has been a really steady season and our reseults have largely been better against the poorer sides and poor against the better clubs. Not like the old days, I remember back in the 70's when Liverpool won the league, we beat them home and away and got no points at all against Sheffield United who that year finished bottom. Anyway I digress, best and worst please, what do you reckon?
best game - 3-2 win at swansea (says it all about how well they've done that thats our best win) worst game - stoke away (worst game of 'football' i've ever - and i'm not exaggerating - seen in my life)
I agree Swansea away as our best, I will go with OP and say WBA at home was our worst, I'm not saying i was expecting a win, they have terrific away form this season, but I would have liked us to give them a game! So many of our star performers all decided to have an off day! Very disappointing!
Best, Swansea away, worst, Sunderland away. Although I'm not convinced the green away strip does us any favours.
For the sake of being different I'll say our best result was 2-1 win away at Bolton. Mainly because it was our first win back in the league and despite some decent performances we had not picked up maybe as many points as we would have liked. Also it was our first away prem win in a long time. Worst possibly the Stoke game as it was an all round terrible game of football. Fortunately though there have not been too many.
Best for me has to be Bolton at home. Winning with three full backs and winger in our defence, and keeping our second clean sheet showed how great we were. Worst has got to be Sunderland away for me. We couldn't do anything with the ball and deserved to lose.
If you mean result then its Bolton away as it was our first win and WBA at home was our worst result as we ought to have won it. If you mean performance then Swansea at home was a fairly comprehensive and merited win. The Stoke away was easily the worst performance but I expected us to lose anyway.
I guess the bolton away result was as oddly important as our away win over scunthorpe last season. Giving our season a real kick start.
Swansea away is best result. Only getting a draw against the turgid Liverpool is probabaly the worst. We played badly against Arsenal, WBA and Stoke too. Best perfromance against us = Spurs/Bale
Although the game was irrelevant on in many ways the Carling Cup defeat to MK Dons was the worst result - coming after two games where I thought we deserved more than a draw I started to worry about our survival prospects. Best win was at Bolton because it restored my faith in our ability to stay up.
As good as a first away win is, I think the first home win is more important. There is more pressure and expectation when at home so, to get that one in the bag was important. As for the best win, has to be Swansea away, and the worst is Sunderland away.
best win for me so far, 4-2 vs newcastle. big win and good team performance worst performance, Sunderland away. we didn't turn up! green shirts, grrr.
My best win so far has to be Bolton at home. In my opinion our best ever performance under Lambert - we could have won by five or six, while also having a completely makeshift defense. If we're only talking league performances then I'd probably have to say that I was pretty disappointed by the performance against Sunderland. However, that pales in comparison when put next to the 2-1 home defeat by Leicester in the FA Cup. We just didn't take the game seriously enough and it hurt a lot of the supporters, including myself.
I go with Max - Newcastle was just a joyous day watching exciting football between two decent sides. Didn't see the Stoke game so for me has to be Sunderland away - particularlt galling as one of my mates is a Mackem season ticket holder!
If Newcastle were at full strength and we still beat them 4-2, I would of said that was the best result, but as they weren't, I'll go for Bolton away. As for worst, it has to be Stoke away.
best - hmm swansea away I think to see them completely capitulate under NCFC pressure and we "out swanseaed" them Other gooduns were beating QPR twice in quick succession (for the warnock rants) and Newcastle at home (Morisons Header woo!) Worst - Stoke and sunderland, Stoke wasn't our fault and sunderland we can easily forgive hopefully some gooduns left!
We must have been off our 'cheating game' that day, then. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/133588-Cheats-vs-non-cheats
Don't forget we didn't have a fully fit proper back 4 in that game either (Newcastle), so it gets my vote. Didn't get to the Stoke game, but from what I've seen and heard it was complete crap, I hate the way Stoke, I was almost going to say play football there, but of course they don't play football, it's just a roughhouse, bit like the Samson & Hercules on a saturday night without the ball, 1970's style.
