I just don't think he is, Having seen what we had with maynard compared to pitman, maynard was a lot better, Dont get me wrong im glad we sold maynard but we all believed pitman would step up but he hasn't. We cant say Del dosent give him the games because he does, Pitman just dosent take the chance. He's not consistent enough and deserved to be dropped yesterday. Jon stead is currently our best striker, and perhaps with Hogan behind him pitman could take his spot back as the best, It also looks as DMC has gone back to a 4-3-3 bubt this time a little different, i wouldn't be surprised to see Ephraim behind Stead and Pitman Saturday which could work for us.

Pitman you really need to step up, 1 goal here and there aint good enough, this club needs you so hit the back of the net a couple of times Saturday and Saturdays to come.

A bit of decent service wouldn't go a miss Shinny, I'm afraid that's what NM was crying out for.
I promise you, with the right football, he would start to knock them in......
Apart from our defence, IMO, this has been a big part of why we are in such a mess.
 
With Nicky he created and scored his own goals. How many times was he in impossible situations and still scored.

Pitman has the talent but there is something missing.

Stead will chase everything and work hard but to me even in a good team he wouldnt score 20 plus goals a season. Hes the type of player u play with someone like nicky who will win the first ball and create you space to score.
 
i don't think McInnes was overly impressed with Pitman's lack of work rate on Tuesday.
 
Pitman is a better finisher than Maynard in one on one situations and better in the box. However he is not capable of making goals out of nothing for himself.. Albert and Bolaise/Woolford/whoever the hell we seem to play on the wings have not been getting a consistant supply of decent crosses into the box for him to get on the end of hence he isn't scoring. With some half decent service he would be deadly.
 
This is an observation not a criticism but we've only managed to score 10 goals in our last 15 games,all the main men have played,Pitman,Maynard,Wood and Stead,we have a good youngster wasting his time at AFC Telford (no disrespect to that team) why not give Marlon Jackson a go,I reckon he would run his boots off and he wouldn't let us down.

Give the youngsters a chance,it wouldn't be any worse than the last 15 games..
 
Stead is the best striker at the club as he showed last season (when he wasn't injured) which everyone seemed to forget this season. Always puts a shift in, has a good ability on the ball and scores a fair few as well. He is one of the few who seems to give a fook about the club, which is refreshing...
 
OI agree with most that Pitman is a better finisher than most we have, but to me gets a bit complacent when he is in the team, he preform's better when he has something to prove and come's on as a sub!
Tuesday's preformance proved that his heart is not in the club like some others.
Now it could be down to service but sometimes you need to make your own like Maynard used to. If you give the team options to break away from your marker you find the service comes to you.
How many times are gifted strikers off side that shows that you want to break clear, I don't see to many off sides for Pitman so is he playing to deep?

Still think though if he gets his head on the game, could still be our top scorer left at the lub
 
Out of the current crop I would only keep Pitman and Stead. Every other forward should be gone by the summer, if not because of the end of their contract then because they've not produced.

The most important thing to do now is to secure our Championship status. We need to allow McInnes to build HIS team, rather than work with the rejects that everyone else picked out. Only then will we see the quality that McInnes produced in the Scottish Premier League.

If we were looking for a quick fix we would have got a purely motivational manager to shout at the lads but we wanted a long-term solution. McInnes is our long-term solution and he needs at least a full-season of games to start building the squad in his image.
 
History repeating is not even a proper Southampton fan, he has just attached himself to them. he's a sad glory hunter..
 
Am I missing something here because I always thought players got the "goal scorer" label if they scored goals?

Do we actually have anybody on staff who fits that cirteria - I think not? Our lousy goal differential also highlights the same problem as well as showing that we don't have a defence either. Not a very good situation really!
 
I have thought all along that Pitman is a better natural finisher than Maynard - good in the box, picking up scraps and getting strikers goals, unlike NM who has a penchant for 20/30 yard screamers.
But I do wonder if he's too laid back for the fight we are in.
Although to be fair to all our strikers, they are not getting a good service into the box from wingers and midfield.
Our major method of attack seems to be to give Albert the ball 10 yards inside his own half, let him run past six defenders and then blast it over the bar. His pace is not being used where it really hurts teams which is in the final third and their penalty area. That is where he should be running at defenders forcing penalties, free kicks and corners. How many pens have we had this season?

All good teams attack as one and defend as one but maybe our biggest problem is we are playing as two or three separate units. So for the last eight games let's have a Bristol City United on the pitch!
 
Cider.. To be fair from watching Albert it's more his fault than the other players. He just doesn't run into space and isn't very good at decision making at the vital times, too often he chooses to run in to a dead end instead of passing.
