...In the back of my mind that we will fall at the last hurdle after maintaining a top two place for the entire season thus far. I know we're looking good at the moment but I can't seem to shake that little voice in my head that tells me it's just too good to be true...

Anyone able to erase this annoying niggle from my thoughts? Positive statistics? Ahhhhh, these promotion run-ins do my nut.

Yeah sorry but no. I was that pessimistic "we're going to balls it up" for the whole season up until tuesday when results went almost completely our way. After West Ham's slip up again though I think us going up is simply inevitable.

We would have to royally balls it up.
 
I still have a little doubt, but that's only because of the past years. With all the things that have happened to us and that.

Guys, I understand why you are pessimistic, but all of the statistics are saying Yes, and not that I gamble, but the bookies don't make people favourites to win, just to lose money. You don't have to believe in anything or have faith for this team to get to he PL. They can do it all on their own, uneasy feeling or not from you. So relax.
 
Have faith.
The bookies make us 1/4 to 1/6 to win the league, and 1/16 to get promoted.
For the pessimistic amongst you, you could go and back us NOT to get promoted, and you would get about 6/1 to 8/1,and the bookie would probably snap your hand off to get your money.
So you can go and book your summer holidays from the start of May,and let all of the other teams worry about the play offs.
 
I'm nervous too! Can't shake the feeling that something could go wrong until it's mathematically correct. Of course I highly expect promotion now, but stranger things have happened.
 
Of course we are anxious. We are Saints supporters and grew up on a diet of disappointment and unfulfilled potential.

Doubts are diminishing as games remaining reduces and the points gap increases. Still no chickens counted. I can't do that until it is a mathematicl certainty but the possible has become the probable.

I agree with Bristol Saint. As each gane passes I'm beginning to dream more and more that we can do it. A result against blackpool (a very tricky fixture) and hammers and reading to draw and I think that is us nicely on our way, I just wish there was only one gane left! :)
 
Even if we lose to Blackpool and West ham win their next two we are still 3 points clear with a miles better goal difference. A Reading win leaves us 2 clear of them and still 6 clear of West ham with only 6 games left. I really think we would have to lose three of our last six games to blow this now. Nigel won't le that happen!

Have faith We are top of the league and we are going up!
 
This is not the old Saints whose ability to cock things up, and leave things to the last day of the season to survive were the stuff of legend. This new saints has the steely determination of Nicola Cortese, and the unflappability and technical expertise of Sir Nigel Adkins, and if that was not enough the best squad in this division, no prima donnas, the highest level of fitness, and a willingness to die for each other and the cause. The club is together as one, and I genuinely believe that we will go up, and we WILL go up as champions. If all that I have mentionned above was not enough we have the chasing pack, and West Ham United who seem determined to do worse than we do at every possible opportunity!
 
Nagging doubts? No, there is no doubt whatsoever that I will be nagged to stop spending so much time on here!

As to the promotion thing, I do not have serious doubts, mainly because our defence has been so solid recently that it is difficult to see how we could lose the number of games required to throw it away, given that we know we have goals in the team. That said, let's get it in the bag before the last game, eh? I am not good with last day nerves.

Here is the best possible news for you:

Nicola is our chairman
Nigel is our manager
We have stars like Morgan, Guly, Rickie. Jack, Adam, Jos, Jose, Rommel, Fraser, Kelvin, Tadarnari Lee and Sharp plus many others as well.
We have Markus looking down from heaven and ensuring that all the things that matter go our way.
We have great fans filling St Mary's and cheering our boys on,
We have a great sporting and loyal away following.
Our Players are fit and well prepared for each game.

I could go on but I think they are enough positives for now.
 
I suppose now is not the time to remind folks of Saints history.......back in the 60's there was a season when Saints just needed 3 points from 5 games for automatic promotion. All 5 games were mid table down. We didn't get them and were not promoted......Hence the rumour went round that Saints didn't really want promotion which persisted for quite a few seasons until at last we were promoted. That was not because we didn't have a good team but we always seem to fail on the run in. We always seemed to be there or there abouts. What is the difference today you might ask.....none really except maybe we know the bosses want that promotion perhaps. The team are frightened of no one maybe.....We are not quite as gung ho as we were in those day's. Lets take each match as it comes....at least everything at the moment is in our own hands.......
 
Nah not me Fran.....Just trying to bring a few back to earth is all....<laugh>...........Realism is my middle name too.....<laugh>
