The FA chewing out fergusson saying he is breaking the whole respect campaign.

They mean the respect campaign should just let the refs get away with whatever they want and never get called out on their crap decisions.

they surely cannot think to play what is often the deciding role in a match, and expect to get no critism when they make mistakes, i mean wtf.

When I was a lad the referee’s decision was final, you might not have always agreed with it but it was.

I agree that they do get it wrong and sometimes embarrassingly so.

However I still agree with the ref having the final say.

To me what is worse than the howlers that refs make is the way that they can be bullied on the pitch by players and off the pitch by managers. I’d like to see this sorted out first and get some respect back into the game.
Perhaps then, and I’m speculating here, the number of blunders made by refs will reduce.

I need to stop now or I’ll start ranting………………..

SAF & Wenger have been manipulating referee's for years, not just on match days during the game but in the media as well, planting seeds, etc.

I agree that the refs have to have the final say otherwise what's the point? may as well have SAF reffing the game, but the refs have to be more consistent and at the minute they are falling way short. Take our game against Liverpool, the ref got 2 major decisions wrong, 2 decisions that influenced the final result (to a degree cos we were ****e anyway) but had he given a free kick which was clearly the correct decision and not a penalty then the game might not have gone Liverpool's way, we were still pressing at that point.

The game has evolved that much to the point where the refs now need help, whether that be additional assistants or technology, either way they have shown that the modern game is too much for one man to referee.

We are where we are as a direct consequence of corruption.Even that idiot Blatter knows he cannot hold out indefinately.Nowadays referees know that technology will highlight any mistakes they make and that ultimately this same technology is the only chance they have of ever regaining any real authority. In the meantime they will from time to time continue to be abused, make cowardly decisions under intense pressure and have their integrity questioned.

    Jostling the referee should be a straight red for a start;
the ref should be able to signal any player to move away from him by a set distance (say 1m) and if the player does not do so then it should be a straight red, no ifs or buts?

Otherwise there is allways going to be that abuse.

SAFC73 is spot on. When Forest were at their best, Clough used to automatically fine any of his players who so much as spoke to a referee. No matter how bad the decision, they were expected to get on with the game and deal with reality. It might help if managers were forbidden to comment on a referee's decisions in post-match interviews across the board.

A game based upon controlled aggression versus a game spoilt by overpaid prima donna’s who demand their own way.
It’s time the FA grew some bollocks and gave the ref’s the ability to ref the game again.

Sorry lads and lasses I l know I’m ranting

This isn't just a recent thing. I remember hearing a ref being interviewed in the 1980s, and he reckoned going to Anfield was an ordeal for any ref. He gave a penalty to the opposition once. There was a player down injured so he let the trainer come on for that before the kick was taken. The Liverpool trainer shouted at him "Do you f***ing know where you are?" That great Liverpool side demanded separate rules for themselves, just like Ferguson does for Man. U. now.

And do you you remember how people used to excuse Revie's filthy Leeds side by saying 'it's a man's game'? If they'd been men, they'd have respected the rules and the ref.

The FA should have punished it then, but didn't.

Old Trafford, 75000 crowd baying at the referee, Fergie going ballistic on the sidelines and half the Manure team around the ref, jostling, gesticulating and generally behaving in an aggressive manner. The referee snaps after years of abuse and brings out the red card: bang, bang, bang, bang, bang and five, yes five stars are red carded; Manure are down to six men and the game has to be abandoned. 75000 fans are going potty and the ploce and stewards are facing a riot! The FA have to award the game 3-0 to Manure's opponents, the Club are fined £500000 and the ground closed for 3 home games.
And the referee never officiates at another Premiership game and was last heard of running the line at a Barrow in Furness game.
