Personally, as not a massive Guly fan i have got two opinions from today's game. First 35 minutes of the match he was pretty diabolical in my, and most the people around me's opinion. As soon as Sharp came on and he played on the right with a bit of freedom to roam the pitch he was quite arguably the best player on the pitch. My point being, Sharp/Lambo upfront with Guly/Adam on the wings is a far more clinical attacking lineup than Guly/Lambo with either Chaplow or De Ridder on the right. (although he did have a good game when he came on). What team would you like to see Tuesday?
Agree with what you said here. I was unsure when we went to a 4-3-3/4-1-2-1-2 with Guly in a central role in the midfield. However, he did well. He even got stuck in, chasing, tackling, throwing himself in the way. He did the simple things well and allowed others to charge onwards. Many good little one-two's, although personally I felt he looked frustrated with a lack of movement from the side. (minus De Ridder who was always moving) Much better 2nd half than 1st. That said, I'd like to see De Ridder get a run as we need to get at Hull this week. Standing off and letting them have it is no good. Tuesday: Davis; Richardson, Fonte, Hooiveld, Fox; De Ridder, Cork, Schneiderlin, Lallana; Sharp, Lambert.
If Chung is better, he should be on the bench and replace Sharp after 60 minutes or so. Sharp looked better yet again today, and he's a bit of a bull-dog up front. Time to give him a proper chance.
Is this your version of Sharpshooter11's Aaron Martin disenchantment..? Why don't you two come to an agreement..? Just support every Saints player rather than get picky about two of them..? FWIW, I think Chung has, football wise, settled in far quicker than Billy, and would be my first choice to start, if fit. Sharp will get plenty of time to settle in, so there's no rush. He's more capable than you give him credit, just as Martin is a better CB than SS11 says too.
I think like many players we seen Adkins is just letting Sharp get up to the level he has brought the others to. If it takes a little longer with some than others so what as long as they get there and Adkins is the best judge of when that time is
Most people were pleased when we landed Sharp including me and i dont understand any rumbles of doubt he could well be key going into our final games Nigel knows him well and spent a few bob on him so i trust his judgement along with Billys great goalscoring record. Lets not forget he has moved his family north to south after a tragic few months in his personal life.As for Guly why all the analysis he is what he is sometimes great and sometimes not but he is always willing to be moved around to suit the system often mid game and very often impacts a game though can sometimes frustrate. I like him in the squad as he can be skilful awkward and strong and chips in with goals and when his mind is right can put in a shift. I can see why he splits opinion but for me he has some value
SaintsFanAlex - it's time you got of Billy's back and started supporting him. You are beginning to slip into the same catagory of one or two other NegHeads on here. I don't think you are one of those types, but your obsession is heading that way. Give the fella a chance before and not half a dozen bit part roles, before you batter him.
I am amazed we are still trying to pick teams and discussing whether or not Guly should play. Nigel has done an unbelieveable job in making the right selections this season. He has got it right far more than he's got it wrong. As for the shape and where Guly should play, it changes and is fluid during each match; this I believe is Nigel's greatest strength. Winning , Losing or drawing, he still changes the shape of things and the personnel... and usually at the right times.
I wouldn't call Sharp obese? Obese is someone who can barely walk, and this is a footballer ffs who ain't that big to begin with
Sharp will never look slim because he's got a barrel chest, but I'm sure Nige is working on his fitness. No player when they arrive is at their peak, but they soon get knocked into shape. Frankly I'm amazed we're top because most of our first team are rubbish according to fans on here who wouldn't select half of them.
According to some of our fans, I think we would be in League 2 if everyone was as bad as people make out
I'm not an Ugly Inside fan, but this is a decent article about Guly and the Guly haters: http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/footba...402&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
He doesn't metion his hatred of Dan Harding though, so a bit hypocritical if you ask me And how is De Ridder a cult hero? Seemed too OTT and over exaggereated for me
It was actually just a late night joke FLT! I really want Sharp to do well mate and i am confident he will come good! Please don't put me in the same category as those people lol!
Would never barrack a Saints player (apart from a little sigh every now and again). Guly is a target for some reason, but Lallana is never slated when he makes mistakes (and he does!). Guly always gives his all (he just has a rather languid way of playing) and is willing to play anywhere he is asked. Adkins rates him and, as we are top of the league, that is all we need to know. I wonder if the criticism of Guly is just laziness on the part of some fans as they then don't have to really think about what they are watching. Adkins has mentioned the Guly critics so I'm sure the player is aware of it and it must hurt. If we win the title, Guly will have played his part and deserve his medal.
I don't understand how anybody can really have anything against Guly. Sure you can be frustrated with him for appearing lazy sometimes but he has been a key player in how well we have done this year and I could see him becoming even better in the premier league with more time on the ball.
