I'm sorry Dan but you are digging yourself a bigger hole. I have had discussions with NNW in the past and it doesn't matter what you say he will never flex and will only twist your words, however on this occassion by him posting the thread and causing others to become upset fits in with NNW's definition of a Troll. Like you said yonks ago on the closed thread. Ignore it and it will go away.
Being the wrong side of middle age I'm qualified to agree that one can ignore this type of juvenile poor attempt at humour, it's certainly not grown up!!!! The inference of your quote here Syd is that it's not "grown up" to react to a thread one disaproves of is I'm afraid flawed.
I agree that I'm a stubborn and robust poster, respect that not everyone likes that, and therefore hope that most people will recognise that on Watford-specific issues I have made an effort to reign myself in. But I resent the suggestion that I've twisted Dan's words here. I've thrown the definition he has provided right back at him, in context.
For what its worth ,I think Dan did the right thing and acted properly to deflect un necessary and unwanted trolling, if this is encouraged then the ultimate result is lots of trolls and the quality of the board goes down (as happened on other forums). I also think that people should let the mods do the job as they see fit and stop making mountains out of molehills Well done BHD
I have had some match threads closed recently. The Southampton Leicester and Tottenham Hotspur threads were closed because I asked as they were starting to be arguments after the games had finished. I have seen a few threads involving Millwall fans closed for being offensive. The latest thread to be closed was harmless and if you did not like it leave it alone.
Dearest NNW with all my heart and soul I swore I would never upset you again, I also did feel you have, in previous discussions twisted peoples words. So if you read my comment again I said you were correct with your definition and I did not say you had twisted Dan's Words so please don't try to twist mine again. Nothing worse for misreading posts than being angry.
You haven't upset me at all (and for the record I've PM'd dan, in case I have upset him), and past disagreements between us are water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned. I think the misunderstanding here is that the post where I gave what you describe as "my definition" was in fact Dan's own definition.
I know that some people are "argument averse" and whenever there is a heated discussion they back off. I am not in that category and actually believe that some issues are better for airing opinions. There are some strong views expressed here but the tone and nature of this discussion proves that even in the face of extreme disagreement we hornets are a fantastically good bunch. I suggest you try some other club's forums to see how quickly this sort of debate degenerates into personal abuse and swearing. On here we have people giving their views honestly and well. I have said most of all I want to say - and ended up admitting that while I approved the closure of the original thread I confessed that as a Mod I probably would not have closed it - - yep that makes me odd. Oh and as a statistician I would add in some facts for Dan to see. There are less than 50 people who regularly post here and that is stretching it a bit as it includes a poster with 122 posts in over one year - and over 80% of posts are by the top 10 posters - considering that 4 of those were Mods it says for 6 "faces" to object to a thread is not an insignificant objection Dan - even if you think thye are sourpusses As this thread IS argumentative I would be more than happy to let it run for another 24 hours or so and then have it closed by a Mod so that we do not let a "negative" thread remain active too long - I am sure that as the thread's author nobody would object to me having it closed?
Blimey, I get busy at work and home for a couple of days and all hell breaks loose here. I think both sides of this argument have been played out now, so nothing else for me to add...except hello to Leo and Norway glad to see both of your Avatars back on a thread again
guys, just say sorry and get it over with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lloydy - I think you seem to be missing the entire point of a discussion - who do you think needs to say sorry to whom and for what - far from it we should thank everyone who takes part in rational discussion
The odd over the top word in the odd post aside, I don't think anyone is particularly sorry. The mods did pretty much the right thing, people have expressed their differing views, and Maestro has neither apologised nor been replaced by someone more suitable to be a mod. I think the question is what users of this board want going forward. Personally, I think anyone wanting to start off-topic threads on this board should first have shown that at least part of their reason for being here is to talk about Watford. If not, they should face their threads being moved to GC or closed. That's not for a second to say we shouldn't be welcoming to newbies, or that we should prevent non-Watford fans from posting, simply that the way to create a positive environment is to ensure that every contributor shares one common ideal: to want to talk about Watford, whatever their point of view.
