Said this last time we had this discussion, where do you draw the line?. What do you class as a worthy insult to ban a person etc?. Yes I get some people are more easily upset by insults then others, but others don't get upset at all.

Could it end up with some one getting a warning just because their banter is different then others?.

Do posters have to call others anything..? Why should someone be directly accused of being an idiot just because their view is different..? For example...

Statement: I don't think West Ham are consistent enough to stave off the challenge from Reading.

Answer: Are you a bloody idiot of something..? Of course they're consistent enough. X

or

Answer: I don't agree. I think they're plenty consistent enough. ✔

Isn't it simple..?

Of course, WHU might not be consistent enough. ;)

Problem is most can't understand that but choose to call people idiots or morons because they don't agree with a post.

****ers the lot of them!

Well that is the whole point, Beef. Where do you draw the line? The mods are simply posters who have been asked to run the site in the behalf of the majority. We talk endlessly about where the line is. If posters feel that the line has been crossed, then they should send us a PM. If they don't we have to rely on our own assessment.

No I don't think so........trouble is what is different banter?.....A good guide for us is when people start pming us to complain or we get admin on our back because of official complaints. We then have no choice but to act.......exactly in what way depends on what is happening. Saints do have a good core of regulars that often debate, banter and argue, with out it ever getting remotely close to insulting or annoying. Some posters unfortunately have not yet learned the skills of debate and argument with out turning to abuse to try and force their views across. To be honest it is the responsibility of the poster to ensure that something said with tongue in cheek, is actually understood as such. Fran is a good example of making sure people are not offended (except for me of course <laugh>) by what she says at times and a few others as well. Good use of the smileys is a way of doing this.

I always think of this forum as being a bit like like the local pub, only without beer. There are a really nice bunch of regulars, even some who come in for a swift half from up the road. Every so often we get one or two who come in,
possibly after a few pints, and start getting aggressive with people who are just after wanting a nice chat and a pint. As long as they settle down, everyone will ignore them and no harm done. Those that continue to be abusive have to be dealt with, or else all the regulars will stay away and the pub will have no clients. The argument that somehow the landlord (the owners of this site) should have to put up with it because it's a freedom of speech issue will not cut any ice. Everyone has to agree to the rules of the site or they are barred by the landlord.
I am always nervous of these sorts of threads because there is always someone who feels that they will have a go at fighting the system, and they just end up getting barred.

Not good enough! We want beer

I think the mods get this board about right. I complained recently about some misogynist stuff from a certain poster, but generally the mods are liberal enough to let get some really good banter develop while closing down the truly offensive. I will put up with the occasionally offensive in the same way that I accept that for true justice to prevail we have to accept that the guilty will occasionally walk free. We accept it as price worth paying for an excellent forum. Well done you mods

That's astonishing..! It's as plain as a pikestaff. We're adults, for Pete's sake, not kids. Kids call each other names because they haven't learned the ability to logically argue a point or position of view. I would hope that we all have. Yes, humour can cut through a bad tempered exchange, but it can also be mistaken for being insulting, when there has been no intention. We are all writing in a limited medium, and it's worth taking a little time to get a point across clearer, rather than just blurting out the first thing one thinks of.

Yes but you can say, don't be stupid etc or you are stupid. Both said in different context makes what is said different.

Fine by me, mate. This is the first football forum [I'm a member on a Honda VFR forum which is brilliant for debate] that I've felt is worth protecting because 95% of the posters genuinely seem nice people, who have differing views, make interesting points and are able to make them known in a reasonable way.

That doesn't happen often on an active football forum.

What about Plastics ?

There are some truly sensitive souls who can't take any kind of insult on this forum, there are those that will bounce friendly abuse backwards and forwards with no problems and there are some that just enjoy shooting others down, that's life I'm afraid. People of all types post on here and have very different ways of communicating - just ignore the ones you don't like and treat insults with the contempt or humour that you feel they merit.

I have a pretty thick skin generally, so would never get wound up by an insult on here (although I do understand that not everybody is like me), I just don't understand how people can get so upset by a bit of name calling. sticks and stones etc.

Some people are ****wits though, and have so little self awareness that they need telling ;)

Ah... Plastics..! If only somebody actually posted something there occasionally. It's the very reason why, in another post, I mentioned being part of an active football forum. ;)

Lol !!!

Most have moved to the facebook version , but I still look in once in a while .........
