This forum is the best - with or without the WUMS. There have been some brilliant threads lately, so ignore the idiots; don't rise to insults and let's keep this forum the intelligent exchange of views that it usually is - 100% is unattainable.

Of course, but the people who can't keep to reasonable behaviour know who they are. Do they do it just to get attention, or a reaction..? The first time I started using an ignore list, I ended up being completely erased from the conversation, as the idiots took over the asylum, as they say. It's not my intention to do it again.

    No.

As you wrote earlier, you started off poorly, but you learned your lesson. Absolutely fine by me.

To bring some smiles to the evening (hopefully to be followed by donny scoring again)....enjoy these quotes on this subject - some better than others:

Calling you an idiot would be an insult to all the stupid people.
I don’t know what makes you so dumb but it really works.
Anybody who told you to be yourself simply couldn’t have given you worse advice…
Hi there, I’m a human being! What are you?
Your village just called. They’re missing an idiot.
Shouldn’t you have a license for being that ugly?
I’m sorry, I’m a little busy. Can i ignore you later?
I’d agree with you, but then we’d both be wrong.
Don’t let you mind wander – it’s far too small to be let out on its own.
A gentleman is one who never hurts anyone’s feelings unintentionally.
Are you always this stupid or are you making a special effort today?
    You can’t fix stupid.
And I thought I had problems? Look at your face!
Sure, I’ve seen people like you before – but I had to pay an admission.
If you took an IQ test, the results would be negative.
Sure, I’d love to help you out…now, which way did you come in?
The most effective comeback to an insult is silence.
Brains aren’t everything. In fact in your case they’re nothing.
I’d love to ask how old you are, but unfortunately I know you can’t count that high.
I have met a lot of hard boiled eggs in my time, but you’re twenty minutes.
All day I thought of you….I was at the zoo.
If you can’t ignore an insult, top it; if you can’t top it, laugh it off; and if you can’t laugh it off, it’s probably deserved.
Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go.
If you’re gonna be two faced.. at least try to make one pretty.
Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful, hate me because your boyfriend thinks I am.
He doesn’t know the meaning of the word “fear” – but then again he doesn’t know the meaning of most words.
For the love of God, do you at least remember what you were doing the day they were passing out common sense?
I won’t insult your intelligence by suggesting that you really believe what you just said.
Insults should be written in sand, compliments should be carved in stone.
If brains were taxed, you’d get a rebate.
Even rabbits insult an dead lion.
There are two insults no human being will endure: that he has no sense of humor, and that he has never known trouble.
You’re so fake, Barbie is jealous.
An injury is much sooner forgotten than an insult.
Never insult an alligator until you’ve crossed the river.
I may be fat, but i can exercise, you can’t fix ugly!
They just ran out of brains by the time you got there, so they gave you a nice wood carving instead.
A graceful taunt is worth a thousand insults.
    Never insult anyone by accident.
Well, they do say opposites attract…so I sincerely hope you meet somebody who is attractive, honest, intelligent, and cultured.
To force a man to pay for the violation of his own liberty is indeed an addition of insult to injury.

Fine by me, mate. This is the first football forum [I'm a member on a Honda VFR forum which is brilliant for debate] that I've felt is worth protecting because 95% of the posters genuinely seem nice people, who have differing views, make interesting points and are able to make them known in a reasonable way.

That doesn't happen often on an active football forum.

I completely agree, and an example of a good debate of 2 conflicting views without it getting out of hand is often me and fatletiss regarding the LB slot! Good Solid banter that we both enjoy and laugh about it! Thats what I like about the forum. Some posters just go off on one and insult you if your opinion is different and unfortunately, It's them who stand out

Very true indeed. This forum is very much the bollocks. It is frequented by some who occasionally fall foul of alcohol induced muppethood and by a very few others for whom muppethood is simply an aspiration. Nonetheless, it remains the bollocks.

Anyone who disagrees with this is a knob.

Adding "muppethood" to the list of words I must try to use more often, joining such classics as "horseshit" and "ballsauce".

If it's abuse you want just go on the Portsmouth News site, it is open season on there, several Saints trying to preach goodwill and to drum some sense into them and the replies are a joy to behold, talk about neanderthal! It is fun teasing them though, a bit unfair too, I almost got a conscience a couple of times but their vitriol soon cured me of that.

OK guys and gals.........we have been reading most of what has been said about the wums and people that like to cause problems and the like. Do you think we as mods should be more active in this regard do you feel we don't do enough to protect people? Bare in mind though we too are posters first and mods second......

3 strikes and a ban would be a good option to use! (I think this has been suggested before)

I always think of this forum as being a bit like like the local pub, only without beer. There are a really nice bunch of regulars, even some who come in for a swift half from up the road. Every so often we get one or two who come in,
possibly after a few pints, and start getting aggressive with people who are just after wanting a nice chat and a pint. As long as they settle down, everyone will ignore them and no harm done. Those that continue to be abusive have to be dealt with, or else all the regulars will stay away and the pub will have no clients. The argument that somehow the landlord (the owners of this site) should have to put up with it because it's a freedom of speech issue will not cut any ice. Everyone has to agree to the rules of the site or they are barred by the landlord.
I am always nervous of these sorts of threads because there is always someone who feels that they will have a go at fighting the system, and they just end up getting barred.

Said this last time we had this discussion, where do you draw the line?. What do you class as a worthy insult to ban a person etc?. Yes I get some people are more easily upset by insults then others, but others don't get upset at all.

Could it end up with some one getting a warning just because their banter is different then others?.

What on earth is all the fuss about? Friendly banter that observes the decencies of civilised debate is all very well, but I think all of us on here would agree that it's infinitely more satisfying to deal in outright rudeness to one's opponents. To call someone a "talentless oaf", "illiterate guttersnipe", "posturing demagogue" or "syphilitic popinjay" produces an adrenalin rush comparable to throwing a person using a mobile phone on a train through the door at full speed.
