There seems to have arisen this belief in deepest, darkest Hunshire that Craig Whyte is a beaten man with no influence at Rangers. Of course, the promising noises of those appointed Administrators, Duff & Phelps' Clark and Whitehouse, has certainly given hope to the Rangers fans that that is indeed the case.

Alas. it would appear, like so often over the past few weeks, that the Admin men have been given the poor bears a false sense of hope. Craig Whyte is going nowhere:

And what's this? Paul Murray, the self-styled champion of the pompously named Blue Knights, might not even be able to take a place on the Rangers board IF their takeover bid is accepted?

So many optimistic noises have been spouted about Rangers in the past few days. It's almost as if a collective amnesia has swept over the Rangers-friendly media and the fans alike. SPL investigation? Pah!; Insolvency investigation? A minor blip; Craig Whyte? Who he?; Huge debt? Not a problem; Big Tax Case? HMRC will do a deal that suits us.

"We are Rangers after all. We Are The People. Nothing bad can happen to us."

One suspects they're in a for one hell of a shock.

Where has this optimism come from over the past few days?

They'll probably get a buyer from one consortium or another this week but, by ****, they have the maw, da, granny and lodger of all ****piles to wade through. I don't think there's as many serious bidders as the administrators make out - this would make perfect business sense as you always talk up rival bids for things to make bidders more aggressive.

Even if Rangers are bought by a group with a hefty lump of financial clout, they've still got tax cases, investigations and all sorts to contest and pay off.

It's gonna be as mucky as a Reccy Park's penalty box.

I think we will eerge in a better condition than we have been in for a good while. Costs under control and a wage structure put in place and kept to.

Taigs are fearing the mighty gers eerging from this stronger than ever.

I certainly don't know any that have that optimism. Mainly because no **** knows what it going to happen to the club. You must be socialising with the kind of cretins who believe media soundbytes and ****ey agenda laden blogs.

I'm not actually ignoring the situation we are in just now. I won't feel optimistic until the club has been bought and a clear strategy for moving forward is set out clearly.

I'd be delighted if we were to go down the path of concentrating more money on youth development than signing unknown foreigners who are no better than the players we bring through. See Ortiz for a prime example.

If promising youngsters knew that they would be developed well and have a great chance of making the first team then they would start coming to Rangers. Just now Hibs, Motherwell etc get better young Scottish players because they have a better chance of first team football than if they were at Celtic or Rangers, with a few exceptions (Forrest & Ness). Then when they get a higher stature, similar to McGregor, Hutton, McGeady, in the game they can be sold onto the EPL or elsewhere for a big return. The money made could then be reinvested into the youth setup. This would benefit the club and the Scottish national team.

It needs 100% commitment for that to work, and it will depend on who comes in as a new owner (If whyte will sell/can be forced to sell). Realistically when Whyte took over that should have been how Rangers should have been run.

As long as whoever comes in has a level head and doesn't mind the criticism they are no doubt going to get for not signing quality players, and most probably selling big assets like McGregor and Davis in the summer then you have a fighting chance.

But it's going to be the criticism of the new owner which will be worth watching, to get a decent youth set-up and start seeing the fruits of that you will have to deal with being second (or even third or fourth) in the SPL for the next couple of seasons at least. I don't think a lot of Rangers fans, despite their ideals just now, will be happy with that when push comes to shove.

Any criticism would be largely tempered by the collective sigh of relief that we survived, I would think.

Celtic and Rangers fans are fickle in nature, I have no doubt there would be relief for a while, but ultimately if the results on the park aren't happening fans paying £600 a year for a season ticket are going to want something done about it.

It's going to be down to the new owner to weather the storm and tell you no when you are looking for signings ... if they are able to do that then you might have a realistic business model, but expect to see a few "kennedy must go" or "murray must go" signs in the meantime.

It would be exactly the same scenario if Celtic were in the same boat btw, not having a dig.

The fickleness is a fair point. Especially if we remain in the SPL the relief would evaporate quickly. Less so if we end up in Div 3 or the confernece.
