They rejected a £30m bid for Mandy Carroll.
So? If someone comes straight in with a massive offer, then you see how far they're willing to go. And Carroll was looking a very good prospect, plus he's a striker. The fact he's English also adds to the price. Tiote is a holding midfielder whose most recent season has been less than stellar. Why on earth would someone offer £25m for him?
I don't see your point. Everyone knows it was a ridiculous offer, but it was high because he was young, English, on a long contract, a striker, and in fine form and Liverpool were flush with the Torres money. If they were stupid to do that, why would another team be equally stupid (or more so) to offer £25m for a holding midfielder who isn't exactly setting the world alight?Andy Carroll had 6 months experience in the top flight yet Liverpool were still stupid enough to bid £35 million for him. A striker who 12 months earlier was struggling in the Championship.

My point is that there is always a chance that someone could offer stupid money, Torres was **** his last year at Liverpool. People pay silly money.
Lets not forget the lad had a month of ramadan at the start of the season, over a month injured and a month in Africa. so realistically he's played a couple of months of this season. He also has a long contract.
Teams are now commonly playing 5 in midfield which allows for that protective midfielder, a useful tool in modern football which not all teams have.
He's one of the best in the league, name better?
If he was to leave it would be for a "bigger" club; i.e a team competing in Europe, therefore they would have the money to pay. (CL qualification brings in 30M). Nowadays top end teams spend £15m like mid to low teams spent £3m; i.e its not too much of an issue.
Surrounded by better players and a more experienced manager to learn from he will improve and his character suggests he wants to learn, offering potential.
It's my belief that Pardew struck a deal somewhere along the lines of £10m for Cisse in January, then if we get CL no one leaves, EL 1 leaves and no Europe, 2 leave.
Have you not noticed a certain change in the financial winds?
Yeah I've noticed a change in the financial winds.
Financial Fair Play initially said be a profitable organisation working within your own means or be banned from European competition.
It changed to break even or make a minimal loss then again to repeated excessive losses may result in a ban from European competition.
Man City signed an admittedly dodgy looking £400m sponsorship deal.
Liverpool alledgedly get £40m in shirt and kit sponsorship alone.
CL qualification makes a minimum £30m.
Man U can make 100m+ in a season.
We're engineered to unearth and make good a player to sell on for excessive cash to these top teams.
We break even now with minimal sponsorship so we don't need to cash in unless its mega bucks.
The rules designed to make a fairer playing field are, like in real life, only going to let the rich get richer whilst the poor drown save for a few savvy people.
Villa, Everton, Sunderland are the ones who will struggle more than Man U but we're not looking to sell to teams of Villas calibre.

But the Torres deal was as stupid if not more so than the Carroll one, but at least Torres has a history of being one of the best strikers in the world - Chelsea were obviously just hoping the old adage of form being temporary... still held true. That and it was a clear ego purchase on the part of the Russian. That won't be the case with Tiote. Tiote is a holding midfielder with a grand total of 1 goal and 2 assists in the time he has been here. You need more than putting the boot in and reasonably accurate square passes to warrant a £25m fee.
Anyway, we'll see.
We made a profit of £13m. The loss of £4m comes from them reducing the value of the squad by £17 million. I'm not sure how they work out the value of squad players mind; I'd assume its contract based rather than hypothetical transfer values. We didn't break even. We made a loss of close to 4m on revenue of 88m. Now that's a substantial improvement, but in most other businesses, it would still be considered a major problem.
And those clubs make a lot of money, but their costs are also huge.
Like i said, we'll see, but £25m for Tiote... He just isn't anywhere near that good.
