Not just to be used as a battering ram alla Stoke style but someone who is technically good but can put themselves about.

We look great till we get to the final third our style at the minute is an effective way on the road trying to catch teams on the counter as they push on but not at home

We were on the money with Fuller - we need someone who can boss that zone a bit more - bring on a BIG BASTURD?

it doesn't necessarily need to be a big, ugly player. A nasty little rat of a player like a Bellamy or even a Suarez (accept he is unaffordable and unavailable) who will whinge, dive, get opponents into trouble with the referee would do as well as. At the moment, Sunderland look like a bunch of nice son-in-laws who will politely allow themselves to be bullied by rougher and tougher lads. I don't care if we end up as popular as a Stoke or a Birmingham - they've won more or come closer to trphies than us lately and this wait for something, anything is getting painful.

Sorry, but Fuller isn't the answer. If you want to play championship football then buy Fuller but if we are to progress then we need better. Agree we were weak up front today but we did look sharp going forward till the ref ****ed up with the penalty. We lost our shape when the injuries happened as well which didn't help.

Spot on mate, this has to be the most accurate, to the point and realistic summary of the game.
Also spot on about Fuller, **** me we are a top half PL team not a team looking to win the championship.

so are you finally agreeing with me that wellbeck is not the answer, a lot of lads seem to be putting a lot of faith in him as the future of safc.
wouldn't mind kuyt or someone like that
p.s if we can go back to when we all came to not606 in jan, you'll see i was raving about suarez then and was hoping we could have got him

As he looks as though he is in good shape, we may have the answer already in the stands

    Yes and No mate

The way we set up at the minute will work best away from home when the home side are pushing forward leaving space for us to catch them on the counter at home teams sit back more and it is harder to break them down with how we are playing at the minute.

For next season we need 4 good strikers in the squad and we need one big ****** who can hold the ball up if nothing else is working. I aint saying just say bring in someone just because they are good in the air we need someone who is technically good and can play with the ball on the deck aswell, just a shame we couldn't get consistancy out of Kenwyne because he would be perfect for us now alongside Gyan

The problem is being too full on, when we had the ball we went forward got men forward then lost it through either sloppy play or a good tackle by Liverpool. When this happened we were committed forward bar 1 maybe 2 defenders. When we were defending we had 11 men behind the ball or very close to it so when we put in a good tackle or Liverpool made a mistake we had nobody as an outlet. When Liverpool were on the back foot they left Carroll and one other player up top as outlets and were on the attack immediately they got the ball as they knew they had enough players back to cope with our attack.
It wouldn't have mattered one iota if we had a big man up front we couldn't do anything with the ball when we got it and, the big man would more than likely be back helping to defend (ala Kenwyne). This to me anyway is basic tactics why fight like caged animals to get the ball when all you can do is either hoof it (so it comes straight back) or pass it about 6/7 yards (for it to come straight back). 1 shot on target all game says it all and when I watched it on Sky again last night we had 0 shots on or off target in the whole of the first half.
p.s. Fuller is not the answer to these problems.

I think Bendtner would do a good job alongside Gyan, bags more skill than Fuller anyway.
