What a load of... Well actually i didn't think Guly had the worst game tonight. He got more stuck in than i have seen from him in a while. Some of his passes were great and the little move to create the chance was brilliant. Yes he missed a sitter in first half then missed his chance shooting it wide but at end of day he is human and just returned from illness. He has scored an impressive amount of goals this season but people seem to forget that. So can everyone stop saying he is s***e. Rant over.
Frustrating yes but that's Guly. You can be frustrated with him all game but if he scores all will be forgotten and you will chant his name as loud as everyone else.
Oh, I thought you were joking when you said you were going to start a thread about our very own Brazilian footballer [that makes him read better eh..?]. I thought that although his defensive qualities were a bonus against Ipswich [yes, he does have them], he kept the pitch squashed on the right side, because he invariably wanted to come inside with the ball, or to receive it, where the action was. De Ridder went down the outside, producing width and space - hence an almost instant goal. It's not a criticism of Guly when he isn't doing what we want from him. It really is about what he's good at. Which means we've picked the wrong player to start, perhaps. Which means, in this unfortunate somebody-has-to-be-blamed-world, Adkins got it slightly wrong. Adkins out..? No, I don't think so. please log in to view this image
Guly did not have his finest hour, he is ineffective on the right as he never is brave enough to get down the flanks, and Richardson was unable to do so either, once De Ridder came on the pattern changed and three or four times the flanks were exploited resulting in a cross from the by-line and a cracking goal from Rickie, in hindsight had De Ridder replaced Guly earlier we may have got more goals, it was the poor quality finishing in the first half that cost us, not the performance of Guly or Harding.
Guly was good yesterday, Ipswich pressed excellently and he had little space but he held onto the ball mostly well worked hard in defence and created some good chances. De ridder made a big impact but it was because he has a different style not because guly was poor. Bit as usual I had the constant irrational hatred spewn unto gully around me for the full 90 some people never learn.
Guly isn't brave enough to get down the flanks? Maybe because he isn't a winger. Guly stays inside to allow Richardson to bomb forward. You can't criticize the guy when you don't know what the manager has told him to do. For all we know he is doing what Nigel is telling him perfectly. If you don't like it then take it up with the manager.
He was very good last night. His work rate has improved massively, his touch though is still incredibly poor though. Should have scored mind. Those misses from Lallana and Guly could really cost us.
Ipswich played with a very high defensive line and they pressed us tight. Guly didn't have the time on the ball to really do what he does best. The players getting joy were Lee, Lallana and De Ridder making runs in behind the defence and it's unfortunate that we wasted chances. Guly prefers the teams that stand off and sit deep, which Barnsley may well do to avoid defeat. Keep the faith everyone!
You say that but when he isn't on the right then he's doing **** all else and the reason Richardson had a poor defensive display last night was because guly left him with no protection. If the whole team had the discipline of guly then the formation would be 1-2-7! The moment that sums him up was when he chased a defender back got a good tackle in and then he strutted off making no attempt to vet in on the attack and when he did get the ball we went backwards. I'll openly admit I am a guly hater before anyone asks.
I thought Guly was excellent in the first half last night. Offered next to nothing going forward I grant you, but the defensive shift he put in was outstanding. The amount of ground he must have covered constantly trying to win the ball, and cover an empty space etc was quite something. Him and Lallana, for totally and utterly different reasons, were excellent in the first half. I really don't understand the Guly haters.
This is really starting to get to me now. At first I thought that they were people who had never played football but had only ever watched others and therefore didn't fully understand what Guly contributes to the team but now I am really starting to wonder whether it is anything to do with football at all. I cannot bring myself to put into words what I am thinking because that would be a very sad reflection on some of our fans. There will always be players in every club that fans do not rate but Guly is just so very, very good, ask the Burnley fans they thought he was our man of the match, just ask Nigel he obviously rates him highly.
Richardson didn't do any bombing down the wing until De Ridder came on, not knocking Guly, he is a class act, especially when he is playing inside just behind the strikers, as you say he is not a right winger. NA knows what he is doing, but cannot get it right every time, there are too many imponderables
