Kelvin for me earned a maximum 10 last night. He was immense and I am left pondering how much longer he can keep going. He is 34 going on 35 and I am worried that we could be left in the lurch if he gets injured or starts showing his age. Hopefully he won't be needed to perform like that for a while because he would definitely start wearing out quicker.

How much longer can he keep going?
And do we need a new reserve for his position?

Needless to say I don't feel Bart could have done what Kelvin did yesterday.

Buying a new keeper has to be top of the list if we get promoted. Kelvin is playing at the peak of his game, but surely even he will begin to 'go' soon. Rob Green if the Hammers don't go up? Would be a delicious irony to have Davis playing and Green on the bench!

We have had some good keepers - Jones was a favourite of mine - and some great ones like Shilts and Niemi but Kelv is surely pushing for a place on our goalkeeper icons board. The fact that he has seen us through our darkest period with some amazing performances (nothing better than yesterday) will surely endear him to us long after he retires and becomes goalkeeper coach at SMS.

Hadn't considered that possibility but it would be a good idea.

Kelvin stayed when we were without a leader and has been a true stalwart of the club. In my eyes he is already reaching legend status for the things he has done for our club. The minute he knew we were safe he stayed even though unsure of how we would fare.

Would be nice to think so but I guess only time will tell. Maybe he could be another who keeps going until close to the 40's.

What an unbelievable display from your keeper last night. Couldn't have saved it for some other team though could he the swine.

I can't believe how many chances we created. This would definitely be the one of the wins you would point out if and when you are promoted.

Good luck chaps for the run in.

Have always said that SKD should be kept on as a goalkeeping coach when he retires and third GK (at least initially)

If anyone watched the Sky coverage of the Reading game you'll know how much he loves our club, which works out pretty well because we all love him.

Super Kelvin Davis... This reminds me of a post I did at the start of the season stating that Kelv should officially be a saints legend. Opinion was mixed at the time with the Legend status coming out about 50/50... wonder if opinions are changed now ...

For me, Kelv is up there as a legend.. end of..

No need to worry. Just look at Brad Friedel! It's perhaps not the best time to use him as an example as he has now conceded 8 in 2 games but I think that was due to the defenders in front of him being poor.

Going off my (foggy) memory, it was all about his commitment to the club. Focused quite a bit on the West Ham D-Day saga, about how it looked as if we were going under but he kept stalling and stalling on signing the contract with West Ham until he knew for certain we were going down. Said it was because he loved it here - him and his family had settled in really well, he loved the area (mustn't live in the city!), thought the club was great and loved how the fans had accepted him into their hearts despite him being crap for Sunderland (he didn't say this exactly, but, duh). He was talking about how it was truly a club in his heart now, how he considers Southampton his team just as the fans do, how he loves playing in front of the St Mary's crowd and Southampton is truly his home. Just a really touching feature on how much he enjoys being here.

Nice to hear that he feels that way. It is rare you get a player who is that passionate about staying at a club when a better option comes along. His commitment has certainly paid off with where we are now. I salute you Super Kelv as i will when you come onto the pitch Tomorrow evening.

I particularly liked the part where he said he was in a chip shop and noticed the Save Our Saints collection bucket. He then realised that there was no way he could leave the club in the position they were in.
