I remember someone saying on the old 606 that we had "got the wrong Russian" at the time we signed Pavlyuchenko. This person (can't remember exactly who) seemed to watch a fair amount of Russian football and asserted that Pogrebnyak was by far the better player, anyway he's certainly doing a job at Fulham so far. Up to 6 goals in just four appearances, one to watch?
Am I right in saying Jol was widely slated for signing Pavel as he was doing so poorly at his previous club? Jol's grin must get bigger everytime he scores.
isnt this usually the case with us? trying to get too clever and trying to sign the not so obvious talent
OptaJoe on Twitter: "5 - Pavel Pogrebnyak's first five shots on target for Fulham have all resulted in goals."
I said that when Arsenal signed Arshavin. I don't think there's such a thing as a "right Russian" now, unless it's got vodka and khalua. Moorpheus, you had to admire Jol's honesty. When an interviewer asked him about Pavels poor record, he said well of course, we wouldn't have been able to sign him if he was banging in goals every week
Fulham up to 8th after this, happy for Jol, after some of the stick he received from Fulham fans early on.
ffc fan in peace, after we got pavel none of us apart from one fan said why have we bought this guy, was he a last minute panic buy when we tried to buy bigger names, and missed out on maxi lopez, and another striker from stuggart, if ends up with 6 goals that would be a success to get 5 in 3 is fantastic, he cant keep it up but still very good for return for 400k for the loan period, we might not be the only team to buy him on a perm. deal
