...But if you're not on fresh tyres, then when the pack's bunched up surely you stand little-to-no chance of holding onto your position?

I can see why less tyre wear is a good thing but if it was me I'd just turn the camber up, get a little extra grip.

It would be nice to know if that was all the time, every corner, lap after lap, or if it was just on the first couple of runs this morning. It would make some sense for Red Bull to run the RB8 against a known baseline for phase 1 of their test in Jerez. You could argue that such a significant update as today's might make running the EBD again today worthwhile but it's a far less convincing justification if this was a planned update because all of those measurements would already have been taken. If they've had to reset their comparison benchmark at this stage of the game then I would suspect that it actually is a B-spec car.

On the other hand, if it has been a permanent feature of the RB8 throughout and it's the induced misfire loophole, then I really don't understand what they can be getting out of it now.

Whether it's illegal, borderline, or just plain clever, it has to be related to the innovation Renault said Red Bull had developed.

I saw the nose, which has lost the horizontal snow plough and now utilises more standard vertical turning vanes, and the sidepods have been reprofiled, but the really interesting shot IMO is the height comparison vs. the Sauber:

Interesting. I wonder why the "plough" was dropped. From an aesthetic point of view... I thought it looked rather nice. :)

They took a gamble and banked on specific weather conditions that never transpired so they've now jibbed it.

Red Bull seems pretty paranoid about a new rear wing according to AUTOSPORT.

    *sigh*
Australia qualifying is going to be a very one-sided affair isn't it...

Seems that way unfortunately, Red Bull seems particularly quiet. Something I've always noticed about Vettel is that hardly ever does any interviews and is a particularly quiet. Always watch out for the quiet ones.

As long as it doesn't rain. Seems to me that car's going to be severely handicapped in wet weather.

Seriously, though, today's updates are the ones they wanted to run in private tomorrow. It could be all bluff and show biz or it could be something quite marvellous.

Hamilton goes fastest. Benson will be going nuts. And then saying times don't matter once someone else goes top.

That rear wing is insane. <yikes>

That's just testing stuff bolted onto it right?

Much like Lotus, I would assume so...

Senna pips Alonso's soft-tyre time running on mediums.

Ferrari has reverted to Friday's front wing.

Does the search for ever smaller performance gains lead to drivers running different parts out of personal preference (rather than doing so because, e.g., the favoured driver breaks his or the team can only manage to get one to the race)?

EDIT: That photo of the Ferrari front wing was posted at 9:22 on Sky's live thread as if it was on today's car (which it might have been). The photo below was posted by Crucial_Xtreme on F1Technical at 10:05 and shows the wing first used yesterday on today's car.

I'm confused as to whether Sky are posting old photos on their live thread.

A small piece of front wing flew off the RBR according to SKY. Vettel in for repairs.

Are the unmarked tyres a specific compound?
