We´ll try to stand tall When we pay a call This Saturday mid-afternoon, In the wake of those Undoubted long throws Just ready to make us all swoon, And don´t get me wrong As a weapon, they´re strong Especially with a six-foot-five Crouch, Just loitering there Up where the air Is thin, there´ll be no room to slouch, But Lambert I´m sure Has thought of a cure For those airborne missiles of yours, And has his own plan For just how we can Add a point or more to our own cause, A draw when we met Early on, and we let A one goal lead slip, I recall, Was probably fair Though we were unclear Back then, as to this league´s pitfalls, We´re much wiser now Though we must still bow To your extra Premier League years, And a Europe taste too Will have strengthened you As this season´s finale nears, So I´d say, a point Hard fought at your joint Would be very satisfactory, But what would bring joy Unlike t´other new boy Would be if we picked up all three, And Pulis, no doubt Will cajole and shout Instructions, especially if things, Don´t potter along In tune with his song I´m looking forward to what the day brings. Yours very expectantly,
High quality as usual RBF, I think we may just spring a surprise on this one, with a late winner from our sub., Howson J!
Evening dave, seems very quiet in the Potteries tonight, think I´d be quite happy with a draw here.................. For you know they do rule Britannia And despite our Canarymania, It´s a tough place to go And put on a show We´ll need to be just that bit cannier. OTBC
We we're indeed fortunate to get a pt a Norwich, no doubting that.. but to the O.P. Why do you keep pressing the enter button so often.. That's a nice verse, now go and lie on your'e couch Let's hope for your'e sake, your'e not caught out by Crouch. Swansea they knew and we're warned about Rory but nay, it was Shotton Where we're all their defenders, "Crouch scored" they must have forgotten. Not underestimating Norwich at all but, I think we should be looking to be positive and go for it! I will be dissapointed if we don't win this game. Can't wait to see Grant Holt come up against Robert Huth.. Something's gotta give me thinks. Good luck after Saturday of course! ENJOY the game fella's I HOPE not the result.
NB, some might say The way that you play Is a doggerel form of football, But, like my rhyme You can´t please all the time Everyone, in their own port of call.
when you come across here don't think that we're queer when we shove our arse in your face its just we're unhappy with our manager chappie and Rory should not have a place But we hope you go deaf when we shout at the ref for denying poor wilko a goal. Yet Walters will thrive From the pen from the dive when pennant fell with a roll If shawcross gets two and Ethers one too methinks that means we'll score four and delia will curse cos you came off the worst relegation beckons once more
binge, A high scoring draw Which could mean 4-4 Is how I think this one could end, Etherington M Could be where problems stem For us, that I´ll not pretend But relegation, whoa! Though you never know And if you think we could still fall, What of your fine selves Surely not, hell´s bells We´d really have to hit a wall And Holt versus Huth Both quite a tough nut Will be something special to see, As Pottermouth said Their own head to head Could decide things, ultimately.
Let me explain canaryman. Just because it rhymes does NOT mean it is either poetry or verse, Yes it rhymes, but there is NO rhythm, nor meter, look up Iambic Pentameter in your dictionary, then you will see what I mean. Blank verse (that means it does not rhyme) is written in Iambic Pentameters as a basic format, and the rhythm goes di dum di dum di dum, the stress being on the 'di@ Do not even think to lecture me on poetry or any other aspect of English Literature - stick to Pam Ayres Good luck for the season, after tomorrow of course, I really rate your manager, I like him as a player, especially when he went to Germany - a class act
Nicky Most poetry I have read usually does rhyme? But, you are the one doing the degree in English so I guess you are correct. BUT, tommorow is Friday I think, is that sun Smither's mentioned getting you too excited. I'll let you know what I think of Parameters and Iambi's or Iambic's when I've googled it.
Actually there is no such requirement for poetry to have "rhythm". Poetry simply means that you use the language for a purpose beyond what is actually said- i.e. so that it sounds pleasant. Rhythm is just one way of doing this. It is simply for aesthetic purposes. For example, you can have a poem about love which is in the shape of a heart- i.e. the actual words form a visual heart. It has no rhythm, or rhyme or even meter, but it is still a poem. Verse on the other hand can either have a meter, or a rhyme, or both. Simply rhyming is enough to classify something as verse, as is simply a rhythm. Iambic pentameter is much more flexible than just "di dum" times five. The dum and the di can be reversed, you can even have stops in the line that count as something. There are more meters than just pentas, though this is the standard. Anyway, enough on the literature lesson!
Can´t see anywhere where I´m lecturing you on anything, and I certainly never professed to be writing in Iambic Pentameter. I never once professed to be writing As Shakespeare did, in lines often biting, So take it with a pinch of salt my friend Or this debate may just not find an end.
Actually 'pentameter' is self explanatory to an intelligent person! Not all poetry consists of five "feet" or "metrical units" so you are correct in not wishing to be lectured to, as it would be pointless to someone of such limited creative knowledge! This is a football forum for goodness sake, not the open university!
Canary Dave By not all do you mean this example.. The boy stood on the burning deck, His feet were covered in blister's. His boxer's too were burnt as well, So he had to wear his Sister's. SORRY!
the boy dived off the burning deck into a nearby punt but delia smith had got there first so his head went up her .... got to get back on topic somehow
