Now that the dust has settled on our season defining encounter with the Gooners we can look forward to next season defining game with the Scousers on Sunday. If we draw this will there be another season defining game to look forward to? Against Bolton at the Reebok maybe? If we hold our nerve I predict we will fiinish the season withn 54pts,Liverpool will also finish with 54pts and Bolton 50. I think we will finish 7th. Anyone else got an opinion ? Know how /want to start a pole on this ?
as we dont seem to agree on much i must say i do agree we will finish 7th, but for me the season defining game was villa when wellbeck got injured, and although i dont think he is the answer to all our problem, i do think his injury lead to our mini slump and if it hadn't happened we would be ahead of lfc going into this game,
As I have misquoted on many occasions ,Commachio. It's a damned poor mind indeed that's unable to agree to dissagree or dissagrree to agree. The game against the Villans is a good shout but we will have to wait and see if turns out to be the defining game of the Season.
Bottom line is lads SB should have bought or loaned in a striker to cover when Bent decided that money talks and went to Villa. Think the scousers will have this down as season defining game more than us, they need to get to Europe for the money and their only hope is through league placement which could be as high as 5th if Stoke or Bolton win the FA cup. I honestly think our season will drift off now and we'll only pick up about 10 points from the remaining 8 games. Poor performances from the whole team of late does not bode well as the teams we have left to play barring Liverpool and Bolton are the bottom clubs who will be fighting for their lives.
Lets hope not eh? I agree, we wont get into EU this season, especially if Bolton/Stoke win the FA. Positive attitude is needed.
Believe me mate I don't want to be turning up to watch the lads get beat every other week but, I've seen it all before from SAFC positive attitude or not. If we get a result on Sunday then we could push on and hit 50 points and possibly 8th, if we get nothing then SB will need to earn his money and 10th is looking more likely.
If United see off City I don't see either Stoke or Bolton winning the Cup. Against City, maybe. I don't think the runner-up in the Cup qualifies for Europe if the winner has a place in Europe through league position (correct me if I'm wrong) so I still have hopes we will finish in a higher league position than Stoke or Bolton. For me a win against Liverpool is achievable and we should be going full bore to the end of the season come what may and who knows, we just might nick a place in Europe. KTF.
Runner up in fa cup does qualify for europe if the winners have already qualified. So unless City or Utd finish out of top 5, the winner of Stoke v Bolton are in europe
Whose to say Stoke or Bolton won't win FA cup lads? a few thought the Carling cup was a formality for Arsenal it's a cup game and anything can happen.
Is it mathematically possible to finish 6th and qualify for europe?.Does it make any difference if two of our top four placed clubs contest the CL Final ?
If we win all of our remaining games, and those above us go on a drastic loosing streak, we stand a good chance.
Exactly. End of. It's a bit of a relief TBH. One less thing to worry about. "Season defining" can mean different things. You could pick SJP or The Bridge. In fact, I think both those games injected something: - the recovery from SJP was brilliant - the display at SB showed what this team is capable of, even before Sess and Sulley came on board. Already I am thinking ahead to next season. I expect a few more Bridge type wins as the team gets better and better, moving towards regular Top 6 contention.
It would be one hell of an acheivement to be in Europe next year, if we do it's amazing, if we don't I will not be in the least disappointed. As regards where we might finish, and with how many points, I reckon between 6th and 8th with 53 - 57 points. 5 home games in the last nine!! The 4 away, well at least one win is not impossible given who we're playing. KTF
Don't think we'll make Europe this season and if we do I fear it could be too early,as I don't think the squad would be strong enough. However if we made it and splashed the cash..?
