Just a thought... Who do you think has the best away fans in the premier league? for me it has to be chelsea. our home support may be rubbish but our away support is quality. Thoughts?
Travelling fans of any club are always the die hards. Like everyone else our away fanbase is mixed up with those who devote their spare time to the club, going over land and sea (and leicester), a fair few day trippers, but also some toothless horrible throwback ****s in it, mixed with a fair smattering of juvenile little pricks who think they're hard men who to be honest I feel like kicking the **** out of myself. I always have fun though, I only get to the away games these days
Newcastle fan here. My season ticket is right next to the away fans at SJP and has been for the last 10 years. Personally I have to say Man Utd have the best away support, always singing(mainly because they beat us all the time) but they have a variety of songs, not just the same 3 over and over. Chelsea always take the allocation but I wouldn't say they were up there with the best. I'd like to think NUFC have one of the best as we always take our allocations(even though Mike Ashley has been taking lower ones this season, Chelsea away in the cup was a perfect example). I would put Chelsea in my top 5.
I think we have the same problem as Chelsea and Arsenal - at home we have too many quiet fans who expect to be entertained and start getting annoyed if we're not turning the opposition over in every game. But the away fans are the diehards from the Stretford End, and I'd put them up against any fans in the PL. Even when we lost to Liverpool, which was probably our worst performance in the league since 2009, the fans were still singing "We love United, we do" when we were 3-0 down. I think that's the true test of away fans - will they still be behind the team when they're getting panned?
yeah i managed to get mine on the dat they came out for stoke away. our allocation was 2847 and we sold it out so quickly. now want to get tickets for west brom away too! yeah the away fans from the top 4 are good but i think the fa cup away fans are the best. this year i went to everton away in the fa cup and it was the best atmosphere i have ever experienced. i also went to preston away last year. we got 600 tickets and that was good fun. othwerwise yeah i agree that newcastle have quality away fans.
Newcastle fans are pretty used to getting 'panned' and still sing, so we've gotta be up there too. So far this season, I'd say either Chelsea, Arsenal (1st half... 2nd half couldnt hear a thing ;P ) or Blackpool.
I think like Liverpool, the newcastle brilliant fans thing is a myth. All top teams have good away support. Agree with the post above, when you're used to winning you do take things for granted and the atmosphere can suffer. However if you were at chelsea v liverpool CL QF two years ago, the atmosphere was amazing and both fans made it. So normally depends on the occassion.
True, but I thought Liverpool fans were **** at SJP this season, even at 0-0. Our home support is usually consistently good (bar the odd time like midweek matches against Blackburn) no matter who the opponent is. Whereas Liverpool and other teams only sing in big European games (at home anyway).
Er... I have to disagree about your home support. My in laws have tickets in the John Hall stand, so I get to go to a fair few games and it is apalling, or at least the many times I have been. Not been this season though so could stand to be corrected
Where abouts in the SJH stand? I'll concede that our singing section isn't in the best place as we can scarcely be heard in the lower tier. Can't comment on how much the atmosphere's improved as only started being in the singing area over the last two years, but it's pretty good most of the time in my biased opinion
Second bank of seats up from the goal line...just above the top right corner of the goal as you look at it from behind Saw Shearers last goal at St James sat there, against West Brom I think, and it was from open play as well... Went to the Stadium of Light a couple of days later and saw his last ever goal as well when you stuffed them 4-1 and he scored from the spot... And to cap it all, I was in the top corner with the Chelsea fans, when we were on that curve before they moved it, on the last game of the season when he did his lap of honour as well...even I had a lump in my throat
