Say we didn't go up , do you think Lambo would stay with us if a decent side (i.e. not WHU) came in for him...leaving out the issue of his contract.
No worries. I thought the Sun had monopolised the "worst journalism in footy" prize this week. I was wrong and just wanted to share my pain.
If they matched/increased his money Hmmmmm. At 30 yrs old I wouldn't blame him. Looking at some of the England threads I'm struck by the lack of a decent CF and could (honestly!) see Lambert filling that space. As a Saints fan who would you rather have Crouch or Lambo. Too late for him though I expect, but if the PL beckoned with us still in the Championship? (gone to wash my mouth out with soap).
I think some independent fan mentioned that if Emile Heskey is ever selected for England again, then it would be a travesty as waiting in the wings is the most prolific and skillful striker in England, outside of the PL. And yes, he meant Rickie, and he wasn't a Saints fan either. I say this just to give you some idea that our Mr Lambert has not gone unnoticed in PL land.
Forget the Gerrard boys, for sheer emotion a la soap opera style the story of Richard Lambert is up there. There are three more chapters to be written before he retires as one of Saints' legends. 1. Lambert scores hat trick as Saints clinch promotion 2. Lambert scores winner as Saints secure Champions League place 3. Lambert goals bring FA Cup to South Coast He's going nowhere.
[Wipes sentimental tear away] Do you think Rickie will still be around to play in the Champions League..?
Following his current career arc, he'll probably become a world class player by somewhere around age 37. Should be right on cue for CL.
Yeah, I reckon you might be right. Let's hope so anyway. Of course, a few years earlier would be a bonus too.
On the basis that West Ham are over rated to the extreme, you think you won the world cup and you get a few mentions from Alfie on eastenders... that's it. your academy isn't up to it any more, your greatest heroes are either at Chelski... or dead, or at SWINDON TOWN. oh well, you always have Joey O'brien!
lols, only one set of supporters are giving it large on here, acting like they're some great historic side, and massive club, rather than a team that has won 1 FA cup in it's entire history and spent the last seven seasons between the chapionship and league 1. As for the size of our club, I've never looked at WHU being a big club, but looking at attendance figures I guess we are, one game played less yet easily the highest, our average attendence is 20% higher than the next club in the Championship, which is Derby. In fact we are 10th highest attended club in England. and Cockney, Walcott wasn't from the Southampton academy, he was from Swindons.
Six months with Swindon trumps five years of development with the Saints academy apparently. Hang on, didn't they pinch him from Newbury?
Saints and West Ham aren't large clubs it's fact. Always had a soft spot for west ham(until now), as a few of my family supported them. Went to a few games aswell. West ham as a club are ok, it's just a shame they are owned by the twats Gold and Sullivan. Have up herself Karen Brady and are managered by fat sam. All four I dislike with a passion, so they have put me off them abit. I'm not going to get into a **** our club is better then yours ****e. We are both at the top of the league so atm we are equal.
maybe you should be aiming this at your own supporters, who seem to have a very inflated opinion of themselves and their club, as reading this thread will show. he joined you because you were a smallish club that he might get noticed at, otherwise he would've joined Chelsea, who were his other choice, basically he joined you cos you were crap and he knew he'd get in the team. You can deny it and call me a liar, but it's a fact.
You mean the few people that come on this site, not all Saints supporters are the same(not even the lot that come on here).I bet West Ham have their fair share of big egoed twats etc. What with what has gone on at southampton and how well we are doing now. Who can blame some getting excited about their team?. Some times this will seem as having a ego, but intruth it's not that at all (most of the time).
I'm not going to call you a liar. However, I'm going to correct you on one thing. It is your opinion only. That doesn't make it a fact, but neither does it make you wrong.
I don't see how this relates to him not being a Southampton academy product. Maybe he reckoned he stood a better chance of getting in our team than Swindon's.
