    Hi Chelsea fan in peace.

As Van Persie is on fire for Arsenal this season with 23 league goals. What is Arsenal's all-time XI now with RVP?

    Here is mine:

    4-3-1-2

    GK: Seaman
    RB: Dixon
    CB: Campbell
    CB: Adams
    LB: Winterburn
    RCM: Fabregas
    CM: Vieira
    LCM: Pires
    CF: Bergkamp
    ST: Van Persie
    ST: Henry

Subs: Lehmann, Cole, Bould, Ljungberg, Overmars, Stapleton, Wright.

No I don't I just think Fabregas was a terrific player for Arsenal. And he is showing it at Barcelona.

Fabregas was good for Arsenal but Rocastle is one of my favourite Arsenal players (<whistle>), so useful with the ball and I'll never forget that goal he scored against United, one of my earliest football memories.

    Fair enough.
Sadly I'm old enough to remember the late 70s and at the time I didn't think I'd ever see a better player than Liam Brady in an Arsenal shirt - but people from generations before that would probably say the same about Ted Drake, Cliff Bastin, Alex James, Frank McClintock etc etc etc

That's the things about 'all time XI's' I think people can only do them from their own generation.

is this an all time top ten or just a post 1986 selection pick? as Liam Brady would get in that team and Pat Jennings behind that back four would have been quite good.

As it mostly appears to be "silverware" gets you in then i'd drop RVP and put in Alan Smith and drop fabregas for rocastle.

apart from that it tells more about the last 7yrs then any wenger press conference about his sqauds of the past 5 yrs being great RVP would not make an all time first 11 as he would be injured anyway

All time Arsenal Premier League XI might be more apt.

  17. If its not a PL top team, then we'd have to make room for Brady

Not sure about Brady. Looked and was exceptional in the 80's, but was he better equivalently than Pires or Vieira?

Definitely think Seaman was better than Jennings for us.

    Anyway my team (post 1980):

    Seaman
    Dixon
    Winterburn
    Bould
    Adams (C)
    Pires
    Vieira
    Brady
    Cesc
    Bergkamp
    Henry

    Subs:

    Jennings
    Keown
    Petit
    Ljungberg
    Cole
    RVP
    Merson

Its interesting to see Cesc get in so many of our teams. He may not won much but he did leave his mark on the club. Kept us in the top four and was the hub of a team that at times played the best football around. I think all the kids that grew up watching Cesc will hold him in same light as many that watched Brady. Probably not going to happen but hope he returns one day. A footballer like that does not let age affect his game.

It was a close call between Cesc and Ljungberg. Cesc gets in, because he stood out in a poor recent side, whereas Freddie looked good in a perfect side.

Other close calls, include O'Leary, Campbell, Wright, A Smith, Overmars, Marwood (we've had some great left sided players over the years), oh yeah, and Gus Caesar.
