What a stupid stance - perhaps only once this daft idea has been realised, we will finally see the ultimate in 'token black man' from football clubs in their management appointment.

    It's a farce.

I'm pretty sure any manager would want to be considered purely on the merits of his management ability and not be a mandatory inclusion because of the colour of his skin.

    Totally and utterly pathetic.

    Got to agree!

There is NOTHING stopping top black players doing their top coaching badges. From there, if they're good enough, they'll make it. In terms of racial prejudice, England leads the way for me (despite Liverpool's best efforts) but you can go TOO far...Positive discrimination is discrimination full stop!

"It is very encouraging that Terry Connor has been given this chance by Wolves. It is exactly the same way that Chris Hughton came to the fore at Newcastle. As the players' voice, we are committed to tackling the issue of black players going into coaching and management."

Whilst I fully understand the reasoning behind an idea like this, you have to say that it's very silly.

How patronising would it be to have a candidate included in the process purely because of his ethnicity?

It's a complete nonsense from my perspective - the best people should always be interviewed, including somebody on the list because you have to is stupidity.

    Where will all this end?

Perhaps we should have the 'Hope Powell' rule - where every club must include a 'minority female candidate'? <doh>

Disgraceful. The effect of this is that a white manager could be excluded from the shortlist because of the colour of their skin. How is that equality?

This stance is completely racist in itself and should be very offensive.

"It is very encouraging that Terry Connor has been given this chance by Wolves."

He actually makes it sound like "the black man" should be grateful and feel lucky enough to get a PL managers job. It's beggars belief.

And, as AG points out, the moment you shortlist an ethnic candidate, you're having to potentially omit a white candidate who could have done the job better, and if that did happen, it would be just as racist.

The best man/woman should always get the job regardless of their race, religion, sexuality etc...

Did anyone see Garth Crooks 'gushing' over the performance of Terry Connor today on Final Score? <doh>

    I'll say no more.

Rather have a winner than a loser no matter what colour there skin is. It shouldn't come into it anyway.

Something needs to be done, believe Newcastle are the only team currently in the PL to have appointed more than one black manager. Most clubs in the league have never appointed a black manager bit of a sad state of affairs.

What are you talking about man? 'Something needs to be done'. Do you think these teams are not choosing black managers on purpose?

If the best managers around happen to be white, then I'm afraid there's going to be a lot of white managers, and as there are finite managerial places, it means less black managers. Trying to force anything else is racist in itself.

The numbers don't add up, though I am all for going for the best manager. Why did someone like Hughton not get his first manager job until 16 years after he retired.

First of all, look at the percentage of foreign managers. The vast majority of them, up and down the leagues, are English.

Second of all, look at the number of black English players. There aren't very many at all compared to white players. More specifically, look at the number of black English players 20-30 years ago, when players of that era will now be old enough to become managers. The percentage is smaller still.

The numbers do add up. There ARE some black players out there who have the credentials to go down the managerial route, like Andy Cole or Les Ferdinand, but plenty of them simply haven't bothered as it obviously doesn't interest them.

The number of black players didn't add up 20-30 years ago. I hope in time it does change. As for the number of English managers not many of them are in the Premier League Chelsea haven't had an English manager since 1996 yet haven't had a manager for more than 4 years in that time. Not convinced that foreign managers are keen on working in the lower leagues, though you do get the odd person like Di Canio who will.

Ok then bud, let's do something. Let's just give folk the job whether they are any good or not just because of their skin colour eh?

That's what they do in police forces up & down the country man & that's why we're in the state we're in bud. Wrong people hired for the wrong reasons.

Skin colour should not be an issue. I f you are the best person for the job you should get it. If you are not, you should be ****ed off.
