That might be the way that we're heading, Croydon.
Ship out the likes of Bassong, Corluka, Dos Santos and Bentley, with Caulker, Naughton, Townsend and Carroll taking their places.

It'd be nice to see some of our youth players finally breaking through, but it's a risk.
I assume that the management have taken encouragement by how well Livermore's done this season and some of the loanees have impressed, too.

There's two advantages of this:
1.) The wages of Caulker, Carroll, Naughton and Townsend are lower than Bentley, Jenas, Bassong, Dos Santos and Corluka - in the age of FFP, that's vital.
2.) Given we'll be saving at least £50k per week in wages, we can organically raise the wage cap for Modric, Bale, and potential new signings.

It also has the bonus of reducing any fears about us reaching the homegrown cap.
It might also prevent some of the strops that we've seen this season from some of our non-first XI players.

Birmingham have confirmed that Townsend's joining them on loan for the rest of the season.

9 Clubs by the time hes 21 says it all about the guy!

Not very good
Not very liked
Unprofessional.

Chirpy<laugh> Listen when I was 18 I moved from London to Newport,South Wales to 'further' my career. Compared to Newport, Leeds is Hollywood I just got on with it. Mind you I didn't have the press following my every move.

For every pro footballer there are a million of us who would love to have had the talent, so it's hard to be sympathetic when we see them apparently having tantrums. Not comparing, but it's so sad to have seen Gazza and Best implode because of personal issues when they had so much going for them.

I sympathise Spurf, Newport makes Chernobyl look like Hollywood, let alone Leeds. I am glad you made a go of it there. But for everyone that does make it that way there is somebody who doesn't. Just forget he's a footballer for a moment ( I know it's hard to do; Secretly, we would all love to play at a high level.) We ain't all the same fella and different, in a lot of cases, doesn't mean bad.

Best and Gazza had self destructive personalities and yes it was ironic, to say the least, that two of the greatest players the game here has ever seen both succumbed to their demons in a a truly spectacular way. As you said though, AT missing his mum's cooking isn't neccessarily the same.

I can't maintain this argument Chirpy in the face of your remorseless logic. You are of course quite right but you have to let off a grump now and again it's expected.

Don't sympathise too much about Newport btw I only stayed a year before my triumphant return to the capitol.<laugh>

Grump away Spurf; I think it's the reason most of us are here anyway! <laugh>

A year in Newport takes some doing fella. The fact that your time here hasn't been punctuated by a prison sentance was a dead giveaway that you had left that hellhole behind long ago. Isn't it the murder the capital of the UK?

Townsend's gone straight into the side today against Forest.
Looks like they're playing a 4-4-2 with two outright wingers, so King and Zigic should get some service from out wide.

Warnock's column in the Indy today:

3. I gave Andros a key role – and he promptly quit

I had my first disappointment at Leeds when Andros Townsend left. He was on loan from Tottenham and when I talked to Harry Redknapp about changing my system for him, Harry said how pleased he was Andros was getting a regular game. The next minute Townsend's agent phones to say he's not enjoyed it at all. He said: "No disrespect to you, Neil, but he's wanted to leave for a while." I said to him: "He's only been here four weeks. I don't suppose it's anything to do with me hearing that Birmingham want him, is it?"

I said to his agent: "I don't want anyone playing for Leeds who's not happy, but we'll have to play him at Portsmouth as I've worked on his role all week. Next week he can go to Birmingham or wherever." I go into training the next day and ask one of the staff to fetch Andros so I can put him in the picture. They return to tell me he's cleared his locker and gone back to London. By the time you read this he'll probably be at Birmingham. It'll be interesting to see how many games he plays between now and the end of the season.
