I think it's something over nothing. In honesty I didn't mind the post. Like u say if I don't want to read it I don't. I do get annoyed by the hijacking of threads by mags at points as I feel at times I spend my time commenting on there drivel rather than on the OP. I don't care what anyone days the vast majority of it is wummery! I won't ignore it for I have the right to reply. If they don't like my reply they can ignore me. I don't tend to swear but do on occasion. I'm still enjoying the site though and hats off to the mods. All doing a good job.

I find it desperately sad that people spout so much 'hate' on a football forum. How can you 'hate' a fellow football fan just because they support a different team? I don't get it? Everyone in the country can't support the same team!

The trouble is though if someone thinks it is ok to 'hate' a supporter of another team it is a small step for them to start 'hating' someone who is black, or white, or catholic, or muslim, or gay, or disabled or just anyone whose opinions differ from theirs. I know some of you on here have been in the forces, or work in some of the more troubled areas in the world, so you must have seen the shocking results of 'hate' and how it affects innocent people.

I just find it depressing that Sunderland AFC is in such a good place right now and yet so many threads on NOT606 turn into people abusing each other.

Banter is fine, that's part of football, but everyone has a responsibility to respect other people's views. I understand sometimes people are in a bad place or are a bit drunk, but if you were in the pub, or in the street, threatening behaviour would not be tolerated, and similarly it is never acceptable on an internet forum.

My opinion is that the Mods have a role that not many can be bothered to do, nor want to do. By signing up to this forum members give the MODS the responsibility and power to have the final word on what is acceptable or not. NO ARGUMENT. If you don't like it then go to another forum.

Me too. I don't like loads of swearing and abuse so just stop reading when things degenerate and by the next day the threads have either gone or have dropped on to page 2 and been forgotten. It's not like Sunderland fans haven't had enough good stuff to talk about lately so there are plenty of other threads to post on.

You're in a no-win situation Syd to be honest... no matter what rules we agree to not every one will stick to them and whenever you remove a thread or ban anyone there's a huge whine-fest from them and/or their mates; which sparks off another barny.

When people go on other boards I think it behooves them to be extra careful or be willing to take whatever abuse comes their way... I don't care what the intention is, they have to know that posting an opinion about another team will automatically start off in the 'probable troll' catagory and it would take a regular series of posts before they became accepted. And it's no use anyone saying "all I want to do is talk about football" if they then simply post wind-up or if they post in a condecending way or if they slip in sly digs.

90%+ of our visitors are Mags and 90%+ of them fall into one of the above catagories... so I think whatever abuse comes their way is fair enough and if they're dissapointed at the response then they should take a look at how what they post might be 'misinterpreted' and so cause the hostility... or don't and simply put up with the (easily anticipated) reactions. The same is true of forum names referencing the team your visiting; andyone calling themselve "5-1", "Makem-trolling", "Agent Bruce" et cetera is hardly likley to be taken seriously and given any leeway... I figure these folks are trolls by inclination; the clue is in their name.

As for the argument on the other thread; well I think people are making a lot of allowences for Billy at the moment but that will only last for so long and some of his aggression (towards home fans and visitors) is beyond the pale. Everyone sympathises Billy but your situation is not unique and it does not give you license to start abusing people. Sorry mate but that's how I see it anyway.

I would say in general that anyone who threatens violence, or insults someones's family directly, should be banned for a time until they learn to control themselves. Name calling of each other is to be expected I'm afraid and everyone is a 'keyboard warrior' to some extent and I think we have to accept it.

I never said my situation was unique bonny lad, yes I had a go at MR last night as he was being abusive to Leazes.

I'm just gonna go as it will make it easier for everyone.

That's your call Billy but wouldn't it be better just not to to get so aggressive? Besides Leazes deserves all he gets IMO.

Well if the complaints were about me, feel free to post them so I can defend myself.

I left the thread as soon as Billy started on his rant, same as I do when he threatens others.

At the same time I was posting on that thread, I was on a cross board thread having a laugh with Mags along with Reg. Even laughing with chappedarse and not at him, oh and the fail that is Tadger who was trying his Wumming in there.
For some strange reason this thread is no longer on our board.

    http://www.not606.com/showthread.ph...-themselves-with-their-dumbass-manager-policy

Billy has decided which posters he can attack, and which Mags we are allowed to have a go at. (Just because he has decided they are his cyber friends, means nothing to me, especially if they are resident WUM's like Tadger.)

If anyone wants to take the piss out of my club or a fellow Mackem, then I will defend SAFC and a fellow Mackem. (Whoever it is!)

Do I have sympathy for Billy over his loss?
    Of course I do.
Going as far as making donations in fellow posters names who couldn't afford too on the charity thread. I personally already give to Cancer Research on a regular basis.
Would I have been posting on a football forum just after the funeral, when I was going through similar losses?
    No, I know for a fact I didn't and wouldn't.
But we all handle grief differently, to me it was more personal.
I also wouldn't use said losses as an excuse to apologise for rants or threats.

    As for what to do.
    Use the swear filter.
Leave threads that don't interest you.
I personally don't want the Mags banned from our board. (There are a couple that actually are amusing and talk sense.)
Keep the personal threats for the playground.

This is a football forum, with some great craic, I love having a laugh here.
Some are taking it far too seriously, it's the internet FFS!

Oh and stop calling me angry!
Taking the piss out of the unwashed isn't anger. <ok>

Its a shame but you might have to start handing a few temporary bans out Syd to the more moronic element.
