    http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/12017/7535577/Phillips-snub-surprises-Ollie

Holloway has justbeen quoted saying "My country, I believe, has now lost one of the best players it has ever had.

"He is going to Scotland. I don't blame Matt at all for that."

Now, whilstI think Matt Phillips is a good player - do people seriously think that we have lost one of the best players it ever had...seems slightly over the top (typical Ollie) to say the least.

    What do you guys think?

Over the top, yes! Although he has potential to be a top player, one of the best England have had....no.

As far as I'm aware he has only recently (this season) shown what a good player he can be. So to give up on England calling you up as a 20 year old...is a poor decision IMO. If he turns 23 and still hasn't had a look in after continually good performances for more than 2/3 or a season than go play for Scotland. Bit short sighted i think.

He couldn't play for England. He would struggle to get into our team.

i dont really agree with all this "if England dont come calling I will play for Scotland, Wales etc". You grow up knowing what your country is so why would you want to play international football for someone else - it just doesnt sit right with me.

Where has all the nations pride gone to?

Kind of agree with you but the opposite of this is those that do play for their country but apparently couldn't give a toss about it. i.e. Rooney spending more time banned than available or any Welsh/Irish squad's drop-out list the week before a match! At least this lad wants to play.

maybe thats what any new England manager must do...find the ones that do want to play. I for one dont think the best 11 players make the best team...look at Germany in 2010 - that was team spirit and wanting to work as hard as possible.

The likes of Terry just dont do it fo rme im afraid...maybe wholesale changes is what is required - Lallana to start with ! (well, maybe not just yet..but you know what I mean).

There's no maybe about it. You're spot on. Remember when Arsenal had a defence that had let in fewer goals than ANY team in World Football for three straight seasons? Seaman - Dixon - Adams - Keown - Winterburn. Did we play them? Did we bollocks.

no we didnt - its always seems to me like we have a boys club situation going on...and i seriously doubt that will change if redknapp takes over..we can but live in hope.

was the same with le tissier to some extent -i always remember he played in the england b team v russia and think he scored 4 goals - and still didnt get to go to france 98 - i think they took either anderton or rob lee in his place - bloody outrageous!

Probably not one of the best the country has ever produced, but he is a quality player, definitely more than just "alright". Just won PFA young player of the month for the whole of the Football League.

Tore us a new one when we played them in the cup last year. Only seen him play a few times, so assume you've seen him a lot more!

Haha, right. So if he scores 30 average goals this season he's overrated? <doh>

Doesn't mean anything scoring 30 goals a season.
CM-S scored 30 goals last season and look at him now.

He's only 20. Holloway is trying to create a Oxlade-Chamberlain style price tag methinks. He's moaned in the past about clubs coming in with 'derisory' offers because it's 'little old Blackpool,' and hinted that clubs like us don't have the same problem.

Matt Phillips has not yet played at the highest level has he? So how on earth can he be branded the best player. He is a good player and has potential but to describe him as the best player is pushing things a bit surely. There are some equally good players out there that are in front of him I would have thought. But hey if he wants to go and play for Scotland good luck to them and him.......
