Hi Scousers. Don't come on here that often but just looking at Suarez it's a question I've always asked myself... how good would Torres be if he played alongside Suarez. I actually think if you'd kept Torres that would be the best strike force in the Prem. Torres needs quick, incisive passing which you seem to play
Have to admit I was looking forward to a Torres and Suarez partnership. I still think that, with the right players and manager, Torres could yet be a success at Chelsea on a side note, I'm not sure why you let Benayoun go to Arsenal on loan. He's the type of player that Chelsea are lacking.
A better question is, would chavski want Rafa to manage, to see if he can restore Nando to his best? It must be a very hard pill to swallow to admit to wasting £50M on a player. So would it be best to cut your losses and just sell nando, or do you move heaven and earth to make him play?
That's the problem. Same with us and Carroll, although it looks like he's turned the corner to be fair to him. Torres should get another season, but he is looking like a carbon copy of Shevchenko. I mean he was the one of the best in the world before he went to Chelsea. It's pains me when some just remember him as the crap Chelsea striker. He never really recovered. Wonder if Torres will.

As I remember, the only good game he played for us was against Chelsea in the season he went. His mind had gone, but, I think most importantly, his injuries of the previous eighteen months had robbed him of his phenomenal acceleration, if not his overall top speed. Incredible we got £50m on what was basically a high roll at that season's CL by RA. Incredible that we than paid a £20m surcharge on Carroll too.
He was good in his short time under Dalglish though (bar the FA cup game at OT when we only had 10 men). And no one was good under Hodgson so that's excusable.
Just don't think Chelsea play the game that suits him, and I'm not sure we do any more. Considering the manner in which he left, I was delighted he flopped- but I'm starting to feel sorry for him now. He's always looked like he's about to burst into tears, nowadays it's easy to understand why. It's sad, he really was a fine player.
In fairness a lot of players were also made to look worse last season BECAUSE of Torres having had his head turned by the oil money and playing like a total pansy. I was over the proverbial moon thinking about a Torres/Suarez partnership but on reflection and having seen just how jaded he looks I do wonder how much the injuries and mental fragility have taken their toll. In the long run we'll be better off without him than he'll be without us...certainly looks that way at the moment.
He has been worse than hopeless for Chelsea. He would of course argue that he traded up. An argument that doesn't work for Carroll. Mike Ashley gets a lot of criticism but 35million for that donkey and replacing him on a free with Ba is absolute genius.

Up to a month ago Carroll bashing would have been safe ground, but lately he's shown more than a glimmer of the quality we hoped for. £35mil? of course not, but the money thrown about in football is insane anyway, and it wasn't Carroll who gave himself the price tag.
I think the shock of the move is starting to pass and he is just realising that he needs to crack on cos its no secret that if he had a choice he wouldn't of left Newcastle.
I don't remember that. The playing well under Kenny part, anyway. Yes he seemed to try a bit harder, but the end product was still totally lacking, and it appeared to be a chore to him. As donga says, the only glint of his talent, was against Chavski. I was more than happy to take £50M for him at that time, in the same way I would have taken a good fee for Owen 18 months before he finally left. I just didn't really want him to go to another Prem team. However it all turned out well. To answer the OP, no, I don't think Suarez would have restored Torres to his best. I feel England has seen the best of Torres, maybe everyone has.
