Our last six games at home are against bottom half of the table teams minus the reading game, should we be expecting maximum points from these? I think our brilliant home form is returning so I see no reason why not! if we were to do that, that would put us on 77 points, meaning I think we would only need to get three away wins from our remaining games 7 away games, 4 of those are bottom half!! Thoughts!?
Got the 'best' remaining games of the main contenders, but it is our home form that will swing it for us. As long as we stay in top two, we should just tick off each match as we close on the finish line. We have a very good goal difference which is worth a point all things being equal. The important thing is that it is still in our own hands...even with the games in hand of teams below us, none can pass us if we win every game (apart WHU). We can still win the title, but I can remember from last year that second feels just as good as first.
Last game of season (assuming we`re not in play-offs) is Coventry at home (can`t wait for the pitch invasion) - do we want them to be safe, be already relegated, or still have something to play for ? I can see scenarios for all three.
Or another scenario, saints already up and coventry winning to put the skates down, now when and where did a similar situation happen before?
Even to relegate Portsmouth, do not want to finish on a loss. Nice 3.0 win to prove how good we are, then we can crow to Pompey fans that we saved them and even write a song about it.
I'd accept a draw against Reading, but we really should be winning our other five home games. Those 16 points would put us onto 75 points, and yes that would leave us only needing to win three or four away games (starting next, against Watford). In terms of securing a play-off spot, we'd probably only need to win one away game alongside those 16 home points - but our results this week have finally firmly turned my attentions away from securing a top six spot, and towards securing a top two spot. (PS. And even better, we've got eight away games left, not seven).
In a sense worrying that we may need to win another three or four away games as we've managed four victories away from home since August and we have a third of that time left. I think the Championship, particularly the top half has been even more inconsistent than in previous seasons and the points required for automatic will be lower than average. More importantly - one game at a time!
ooops eight your quite right sorry! I will too believe if we win next week, the others may have games in hand over us but as we found out last year, there not always nailed on 3 points!
