The introduction of a salary cap could force clubs to reduce the size of their squads. This will have major benefits for the game.

There won't be so many players available for loan.
If they suffer injuries or suspensions they will have to give younger players a chance.
Some very good players would sign for the 'lesser' clubs making the league more competitive.
 
Maybe the FFP measures will encourage the greater development of younger players - although not necessarily home grown if they can be imported cheaply from elsewhere. It has worked for Ar5ena1 until recently but they are now deeply in the soft and smellies as their youngsters have not blossomed as expected and Wenger will not or cannot spend what he needs to give his side a good short term boost.

However, if the measures force the likes of Man City and Chelsea to restrict their spending to a percentage of genuine income then they could face problems as their squads age (like Chelsea now) and/or players come to the end of their contracts.

Didn't Fergie make a comment last week about seeing another "golden team" emerging form his youngsters. If so then that must be the way forward for all and perhaps we will have a dip in European club competition performance (as we ahve seen this season) similar to Italy on the basis of what goes around comes around.
 
trouble is football is full of yunkers now......did you see that gunners midfield yesterday,young but not good enough really.

fergie hasnt got great yunkers coming through again he`s said that for years,infact most go on 2 become good but not great championship level players....if you ask me he`s playing the same game as wenger all of a sudden(keeping the finances tight)....tis the cheapest way but is it gonna win things,im not so sure <ok>................lets be honest when man utd had the likes of rude van scholes keane and co.....apart from rooney in todays team i dont think any other player would get into that squad......same with arsenal with bergkamp,pires,viera,petit overmars....apart from van persie no one else would get on the bench even....................................................................standards have dropped on a major level since them days but yet we are paying out more money on wages and so on.
 
That first Job Centre interview would be interesting.

a little story of how much respect these players have on the money they earn.....my work mate was down some casino in swansea on a stag night the other week....at 2-3 am scott sinclair came in with a few mates and joined a table with one of the boys who`s not on bad money himself and 2 us is a bit of a flash ****.......scott lost 10grand in four minutes whilst the boys were there but didnt bat an eyelid.....and ordered more plastic for the table.....the boys left sharply 2 get a luxury kebab(extra large) for the journey home <ale>......the end



the moral of the story is football is miles apart from the people who sit in the stands.....that never used 2be the case,and the game was better for it <ok>

Maybe the football could have been better if they weren't playing on those pitches. Do you remember when, at this time of the year, there was more sand on the pitch than any beach.

We used to pray the wind was not from Aberthaw.
 
the football was great back then swamp.......a tackle was permitted and a player being on the pitch in an offside position would be just that offside.......not like robinho`s for milan against arsenal.....way offside less than 10secs later he puts the ball in the net <doh>


theres also hooliganism now yeah <ok>



the difference 2me these days is the clear cheating and lack of heart <ok>

i take your points but although i wasnt alive then, i prefer this sort of football, the only thing i dont like about it is the lack of heart as you say, and the way players use clubs as stepping stones, but thats professional football to you, and its a two way street with footballers told their surplus to requirements despite having a contract etc..

thats the new offside rule for you, its an improvement, otherwise there would be about 100 offsides a match, all seater new stadia are easier for the police to control etc, so although there may be some hooliganism (i dont know about you :p ) the game has changed for the better in that respect IMO <ok>
 
swamp ofcourse your opinion is taken onboard,you dont know nowt else and your age you had no control over yeah <ok>.....same as me really ive not seen the football the older guys than me have....stuff like a goalkeeper being hit in the net in a fifty fifty,i tbh would have liked 2have seen that cos the keepers in my day were starting 2 be protected and nearly every challenge from a corner ended up with a free kick,pretty much like today...feather weight keepers like the man utd one at present couldnt have played in them days <ok>


the new offside is a total disaster dude full of loopholes and open 2 corruption by officials.....please tell me how robinho was active in the milan arsenal game......no wonder defences are looking so shaky it not defending has got worse its fking impossible 2 organise (the arsenal back four quality).



also the new stadiums maybe easier 2police but that has come at a cost of losing the atmosphere and the feel of togetherness born on a terrace.....my first game i saw with city i stood in a family terrace beneath the grandstand 2that left......we got relegated that day and all i knew is i what wanted 2 do for the new season was 2 be standing with the men on the bob bank terrace,so yeah you could say the atmosphere got me interested more than the game itself.................so if you ask me footballs more than just about the game on the pitch <ale>




i hope rangers and pompey get the right people in this time(fans buy-out maybe)...2good clubs with top supporters <ale>

Them were the days aber - not that I remember them mind.....<whistle>

I can rememebr Don Murray nearly putting our own keeper (Graham Vearncombe? ) in the net after a minor disagreement between them over a defensive misunderstanding. I think it was Brian Harris who pulled him off before he killed him..........<laugh>
 
Don Murray was way before my time.

Met him in a pub in Penarth several years ago - top bloke.
