I read this morning that HMRC are actively looking into several other Premier and ex Premier clubs over tax dodging schemes run similiar to Rangers. Anyone have any ideas who these clubs might be?
Football finance is a flaming disgrace. How has it come to pass that a the national game is awash with millionaires, gates are up, the Prem is avidly watched throughout the world, yet clubs are going bust at the rate of almost one a month? The game's either being disasterously mismanaged, blatantly robbed, or both.
If this is the case, then watch the politicians rally round the FA and get some protection in for the clubs..... just to get a few more thousand votes.
Because to have success you have to gamble. And fans don't tolerate having money and not spending it, look at Arsenal or Everton. Well run clubs that have a fans protest every weekend.
You are spot on here, and it's going to be a big test for us when we go up. If anyone knows Liverpool they'll know that most scousers are Evertonians - you won't find many Essex Blues on match days! - and so this inevitably applies to most people I meet - the cab drivers, blokes waiting for the missus in clothes shops, the woman who manages the shop near where I live and, of course, the pub. Most of them know that Moyes is a genius and that Everton are over performing big style. Of course you get a few who tend to be the most vocal and they constantly whinge that they want Everton to "show ambition" (what like the Reds buying Andy Carroll is the usual response!) and all that. It is the classic silent majority stuff in Everton's case, and I suspect that is true with Arsenal. On the big point here, we need financial restraint and clubs bought to account if we are ever going to see the likes of Norwich, Ipswich, Derby and Southampton challenging the big boys as they did in the 70's and 80's. In business, if Tesco tried to retain their position as the market leader by the simple act not paying their creditors and so being able to offer price cuts to undermine their rivals they would be in court pronto. What happens in this bubble we call premiership football. It's totally mad. I
With Everton it's only last the 3 windows where they've really had to economise ... Moyes got pretty good backing, for an unbankrolled club with 33k attendances. Still I take you point, it just shows how the top 4 are in a different league EFC SPENDING 2012/11 £8,000,000 2011/10 £1,500,000 2010/09 £20,000,000 2009/08 £17,000,500 2008/07 £19,250,000 2006/06 £7,000,000 2005/05 £27,600,000
I think there was a Grace period for clubs to clear up these sorts of problems before HMRC went activly hunting them. I Think chelsea ended up paying ~£10mill back to HMRC last year? cant find my reference at the moment as stuck working.
Everton a well run club?, they have no money. Last time I heard they had a debt of around 50mil. Bolton have a debt of around 90mil.
That shows a considerable amount of ignorance, used to be so, but not any longer, check your facts before posting, and anyway HMQ is a Saints supporter, she made sure that she had a prime seat in 1976 and wore our colours, check it out.
Did you know the Queen has an entire department in the HMRC to make sure she pays the absolute minimum..? Be nice if we all got so much help.
