Apparently, Peter Lawwell is to write to the SFA, SFL and SPL in regards to the titles and trophies won by Rangers while under investigation by HMRC. More to follow.
Yip , i also phoned them 2/3 seasons ago when decisions were going against us weekly , I said i am studying my football coupon for the weekend and wondered what rules we were playing that weekend. Some of those decisions cost me a lot of money , had to be done. They transferred me to the sfa the refs come under their association , today's problem certainly is the spl .problem
I would never think of doing that, Harry. Although, I might phone them for a laugh and ask to speak to Oliver Kloathsov.
The way I look at it , I go to every game spend 2/3 grand following Celtic,my wife and daughters go to all home games some away games , more money , I am a customer of the spl there has to be fairness , those last three league title hurt , coming home from Inverness last may was the worst .If the spl takes away those title won ,playing to different rules than the test of the oppostion is not allowed , gold medals have been taken of olympic stars , why not league titles??? some of that hurt will be taken away . No more 54 rammed down your throat
Although I had a laugh there you can't really argue with Harry. He paid out a fortune in the hope that Celtic would win the league. They didn't win the league because their only rivals cheated. If Rangers hadn't cheated they would not be on 54 titles. That much is fact.
Cheated? By being in debt? Cheated the tax man mibby, but if being in debt is cheating then many clubs will have to hand back trophies.
No. Cheated by spending what was, essentially, my and every other taxpayers money when other teams couldn't. You can be in debt as much as you like but robbing from the public purse to fund a private enterprise is, at best, morally devoid.
It's not being in debt though that's cheating. It was paying players money by using EBTs that you would not have been otherwise able to afford.
Being unable to pay it, is debt. Being unable to pay it because you over-reached and banked on European success that never happened, is foolish. Cheating? No.
The EBT's themselves are not the issue. Many football clubs and companies use them. HMRC is saying that the EBT was improperly implemented/managed (canny mind the exact wording) and that is the route HMRC is using and is going to use to go after companies. That is not cheating. That is using a widely used mechanism to structure your finances and limit your liability.
And how were they improperly implemented/managed? And if that's the only reason why are HMRC so desperate to make an example of Rangers so they can go after lots of English teams? Did they improperly implement/manage them too? Plus, you used EBTs to attract players with wages you otherwise could not afford and on the back of that won titles and trophies, all of them tainted.
Dunno how they were implemented/managed. Apparently, it's what HMRC is saying. Using them is fine. They are there for the reason that companies use them for; to minimise the liability of highly paid employees. Perfectly legal. What is happening is an argument between HMRC and Rangers about how they were implemented/managed. Same thing happened years ago between HMRC and IT contractors. It was called IR35. Again, not cheating.
