So you think Wenger was right when he refused to shake Hughes' hand a couple of years back?

I don't expect them to like each other, but that's a pretty poor excuse not to shake before the match. The handshake ism't about liking each other, it's about respecting each other and the game. Andyour club - all this has done is ensure the incident drags on much longer and he gdts booed by yet more crowds.

I'm a norwich fan, but what scum that Suarez is. Though by the way his manager defends him, and how their supporters booed Evra in the cup (for being racially abused) and the way they abused one of our youngster on loan at Oldham, I'd say he was at the right club.

Racism is the most sensitive subject, far more so than merely being a bad loser <ok>. I wouldn't respect anyone who had wrongly accused me of something so awful. But I do agree with the latter part of that response, that's the negative side.

'cept Evra testified he didn't think Suarez was racist. Suarez is just pissed that he said something offensive and was caught out.

So was this just a ploy from Evra to scupper Suarez' for no reason?

The initial problem was in translation. Evra thought "negro" translated as "n****r" rather than "black". Hence he complained to the ref and FA. When it was explained to him this wasn't the case he accepted Suarez hadn't meant to be racist, but by then the FA were already investigating and they decided there was a case to answer for. Which, imo, there was.

Still, credit to Suarez for not responding when Evra was trying to wind him up at the end of the game. He did well not to react there, tho I don't think all his teammates needed to get involved given Suarez was already almost at the tunnel.

Didn't actually know that Swarbs! Opinion changed slightly.

Evra was an idiot there, not only does that wind up players but it was going to wind up the fans too. That ****e can instigate violence, not only between fans but in the tunnel.

Well, that was Evra's explanation anyway - he thought "negro" translated to "negre" which is basically the French equivalent of "n****r" (and ironically also the linguistic origin of the "n" word). It was a bit unfortunate for Suarez as he couldn't reasonably have known that, but then he probably shouldn't have assumed Evra wouldn't take the term in a racist way either, particularly given the two were having an argument.

Completely agree that Evra was being a **** tho'. By far the better thing to do would've been to just shake hands with the Liverpool players (with the obvious exception ;)), applaud the fans and put the whole thing to bed. Evra's celebrations were practically as bad as Suarez' handshake snub imo for dragging the whole thing out.

    But then he is French...

If you believed someone lied about you bring racist to them and believed you were wrongly accused, would you not fight to clear your name instead of hiding behind a list of excuses?

Don't blame Evra for his celebrations after all the bullshit from Liverpool the past few weeks.

Liverpool fans shouldn't get too attached to Suarez. He'll **** off to Spain when he's wound enough people up in England.

This thread is to discuss the handshake incident, not to bandy accusations of racism around. Please keep it clean - I've started deleting off topic and offensive / abusive posts.

Suarez has no class. Surely I woulda shook his hand to show that u accept hat happened was bad even tho unintended and get on with it. For anyone to come on here and defend him astounds me. I think evra should not have celebrated like that either. Was quite Petty an saf will have words I'm sure.

Sorry, class is permanent form is temporary.

Suarez has shown some decent form this season as a footballer.
Suarez showed no class as a human being today.

Unfortunately most footballers (and this includes Evra at times) are unable to live up to the spotlight shone upon them, to be the role models they are expected to be. Is this their fault, the media or ours?

you've deleted mine, "Swarbs', and I pointed out that your fellow " Moderator " was exposing his own inherent racism

You've also deleted his comments ? Which I agree were offensive

    " off topic " ?

Read this in the paper this morning..sort off fits the occasion..
"As long as there is respect for each other before and after the game, there is no problem. You need to respect the emotion of the occasion. That doesn't mean you kick each other for 90 mins, but it does mean you shake hands before the game and after it" -Dirk Kuyt
