Is Malky.................. A) Lulling the other clubs around us into a false sense of security? B) Making a point to the owners that without more loanees, that's the best we can hope for? C) Preparing the ground for what he believes the most likely scenario anyway to avoid disappointment? D) Just being realistic? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/16981742 Why do I always look for something else in what is probably a perfectly straightforward article?
Seems a pretty balanced view Sparkey. Managing expectations on a number of fronts. 1 - Keeping the fans grounded in that we've exceeded expectations, but let's not get carried away, we could still miss out. 2 - focussing the players on the coming games, we've done well, but there is a lot of work still to do. 3 - I don't think the owners will get carried away, they've seen disappointment before, but MM is letting them know that a little help by loosening the purse strings will help to get the job finished. The more I see, hear and read about the guy, the more impressed I am. He's doing a job in the short term but is also laying the foundations for the long term. One measure of the man for me is the comments from the players on him. Lots of positive comments which suggest the players like him and want to do well for him. They also seem to trust in him and what he is trying to acheive.
Cos you're a Bluebird lol, I'm putting all my trust in Malky, it has to be the right player, sticking someone in to appease the supporters who then doesn't fit the team ethic then no thanks I'd prefer to wait, had enough of that, I'm sure that's why Malky's more likely to go for younger loanies who have a point to prove and bags of energy. At the beginning of the season if you had offered me a comfortable mid table position I'd have accepted it, our current position is nothing short of remarkable when you actually analyse how much has changed.
D) Just being realistic? Lets face it if this is what he said was his personal target at the start when he first walked in we would have called him optimistic as most thought a mid table finish would be half decent.
This season was always about rebuilding for me. We have a good squad with players under contract. If we fail to go up we will be in a far better position than in May 11. Getting to the play offs will be a great achievement. We can still finish anywhere in the top 10. I think we will get a play off place. To me it then comes down to fitness and a bit of luck as from what ive seen theres not much between the teams at the top. If we dont go up im sure Malky knows where we need strengthening.
