I know its not Charlton related , but was hoping that Chrissy might give me a bit of licence here,
I was watching Sky tonight with 'Days of their Lives' with Vaughny,Harmy and Jonesy reminiscing about 2005. As most of you know, i'm a bit of a cricket nut, and would like to ask you guys of your memories of 2005.

    I have 4 specific memories...

    1) Being in Stockholm when England won the 2nd test by 2 runs and not knowing who had won until an England fan told me at Arlanda Airport.
    2) Freddies over to Langer and Ponting at Old Trafford i think - probably the best over ive seen.
    3) KP's innings at the Oval - one of, if not the best innings i've ever seen.
    4) Being locked out of Old Trafford, and then managng to get in to see the last 2 seesions on last day.

Also add in the drunken Bus trip in London, when the media seemed to turn a blind eye for the first time ever to drunken behaviour by English Sportsmen.

It still brings a tear to my eye.

The main memory is the tears in my eyes when Billy Bowden took the bails off at the Oval! It had been a long wait for the Ashes!

I'm personally fine with non cafc threads, within reason and as long as we don't have a cluttered board full of it <ok>

As for the '05 ashes- a vivid memory for me was having a short break with mates after a uni hand in and we headed down to Devon. I remember being an advocate for Pieterson to come in for Thorpe (not easy to say as I'm a huge Surrey fan), and being in this real old English pub for the first test, shared a lot of banter with some of the "old guard" fans who hated the idea of KP playing.

Well, as we know the game didn't exactly go our way, but KP being the man to step up in the first test proved pretty much the entire English cricket community wrong, and seeing the turn in reaction from some of the old Barmy army was pretty funny.

I think it helped contribute to the resurgence with our test cricket (obvious statement seeming we won the ashes), because for so long we had always stuck with the more "experienced" players. For this series we took a huge risk in having Bell and KP come in at 4 and 5. It helped pave the way afterwards for the likes of Anderson, broad etc as attitudes had changed within the selection committee.

Other memories were warne bowling beautifully, Simon jones getting some serious reverse swing and Freddie just taking it to them.

    What a series.

KP played brilliant in that series - his first Ashes.
Vaughny said on the show that Hayden always used to bully the opposition, but that they decided to stand up to him - i suppose when you had 4 bowlers all circa 6' 4 (Freddie,Harmy,Jones and Gilo) then you could do that- and KP and Trezza were no dwarfs- and that Hoggy had him in real trouble with the inswinger that he used to laugh when he got him out.
An incredible series, that wont probably ever be bettered.
Sad git that i am, i sometimes watch the re-runs they have on ESPN and SKy.
I am hoping to go to Oz when the next Ashes is on Down-Under - I worked in Oz 2003/2004 (was there when we won the Rugby World Cup) and have a lot of friends there, but looking to drive across the middle of OZ throuhg the outback from Perth to Sydney with my sons.

Also, to add some Charlton flavour to this thread... England Under 19 captain is a guy called Adam Ball, who plays for Kent, and is one of the hottest prospects around is a CAFC season ticket holder - so, you never know, we could have an Addick as England Captain one day.

sports threads are great. its sensical discussion....cant see anything wrong with that

watching with my pals thinking we`d thrown it away and then get kasprowicz (spelling!) with a lazy flick down leg and a great take by the keeper.

harmy giving it to punter when he threw the ball at him short of his ground

punter being run out by a wonderful throw by A SUB

i might have mixed series here but think this is all 2005

stu do u play much? i havent had a game for 3 years now and miss it terribly. not much of a following out here

Oh yes, the Punter runout by Gary Pratt - how could i forget that ! He wasnt a happy bunny - laugh ! Yes, that was 2005.

No mate - dont play anymore - dont think the body could take all that drinking after the game anymore !! - Used to be Opening Bat and 5/6th Bowler - had trials for Kent schoolboys many a long time ago - but failed miserably !
I'm sure you would be able to get a game in Zurich with the ex-pats, mikght be artificail wicket though .

He went to both my primary and secondary school and is such a great sportmans! He played in goal and at left back for Arsenal in their youth teams, Rugby for School and then cricket for England.
